On the world album premiere of SOTSOG, Noel said Liam was "the
best singer of his generation when he wants to be." Now, Noel sings a lot
of Oasis songs. Perhaps too many. So why doesn't Liam at least
contribute backing vocals to some/most of them?
I can't think of any songs other than "D'Yer Wanna Be a Spaceman"
and "Fade Away (Warchild Version)" where Liam does backing vocals.
Do you think it's Liam's ego that's to blame, or Noel's poor
judgment? Thoughts?

Greg.

I asked that question in the NME interview, hopefully they chose it and
it will be on tomorrow.

while, i agree that liam is one of rock's best vocalists right now, i think
it's more due to the swagger with each grinds out each tune, not due to any
sort of musical talent so, perhaps, he's ill-trained to provide harmonized
backing vocals.

It seems to me that background vocalists voices are kind of smooth, and
not raspy. You think of Mike Mills as compared to Michael Stipe, or Noel
as compared to Liam. I guess it works better that way. Maybe then you
tend to pay more attention to the lead singer and not focus on the backup.
Liam's voice demands attention and focus and its hard to keep that in the
background. Noel's voice blends better (that's in no way meant as a
criticism, I like his voice a lot).
