KNEBWORTH
Knebworth Park, Stevenage - August 10 & 11 1996
Oasis have shrugged off the massive achievement of their quarter of a million selling Knebworth weekend by declaring: "It's not a
major statement. "Their manager Marcus Russell spoke to The Maker on-site. He said "This isn't the culmination of anything, or the
beginning of anything. We are satisfying a huge market for concert tickets to see Oasis. "He added: "Naturally we're all very
excited this weekend. It is important that it runs successfully. But the major reason we're doing a show this size is to satisfy
demand. There is an almost insatiable demand for tickets to see Oasis.
We're not making any kind of statement."The band have proved that they can work on a big stage and in big venues, so this seems like
an ideal way of letting a lot of people see us."
The Maker suggested that there must be an eliment of kudos involved. Russell replied: "Of course there's kudos to it. But that's not
the overriding factor to satisfy the fan base. "Asked what he thought of the venue, Russell said, "Oh this is amazing. We researched
all the large, green-field sites in England and this came up on top. Easy. This is the best site to play for this type of gig."Oasis
at Knebworth was billed as the biggest rock 'n' roll event of the decade. Where can they possibly go from here ? "We're, going to
Cork from here and then Dayton, Ohio, " laughed Russell.Oasis' priority now is to record their new album.According to Russell, "He
[Noel] has written the bulk of it. A lot of our plans depend on how long we take to record it. I imagine that the next record will
be out this time next year."
Whenever that's finished we'll be back on the road."We're all very excited about what's happened. Oasis have a solid building
process. All the time we're playing bigger venues. America is looking pretty solid although it's never been more of a priority than
anywhere else. Our main priority is to play the venues where the band have the most success. America is just one of those
places.Asked if Oasis had any plans to take a break, he said: "We've just had a break. I mean obviously we'll be taking some time
off at Christmas."

POLICE REPORT
A Hertfordshire police spokeswoman said on Monday morning that the Knebworth shows had gone "very well" from a policing point of
view. "There were only ten arrests over the weekend and most of them were minor public disorder offences at the station. There were
three arrests for theft and one for criminal damage.

Official Statement
"Oasis spokesman had this to say on Monday:
"From our point of view, the weekend was a complete success. The band thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing, buzzing of the response
from the crowd. One of the highlights of the weekend was a guest appearance from former Stone Roses guitarist, John Squire, who
joined Oasis both nights for "Champagne Supanova" and "I am the Walrus."

NOEL ANSWERS KNEBWORTH CRITICS
"It ain't about the price of burgers or how your car wouldn't start. It's the event and the event was top. The people who were
really there - not the liggers or the tabloids - know how good it really was."
Noel Gallagher, 12th August 1996

KNEBWORTH SUCCESS!
History was made this weekend as OASIS played to a quarter of a million people at Knebworth - the biggest audiences in Britain for
any show headlined by a single act, ever. And, since Sunday's concert was broadcast live via the BBC to over 40 countries by 350
radio stations, this will put the global audience into the multi-millions.
Police reported only 13 arrests (9 of those at Stevenage railway station). St John's Ambulance Brigade reported only needing to
treat people for minor injuries: blisters, fainting, dehydration, and sunburn. Given the size of the crowds, incredibly only 41 were
taken to hospital, and none of those were detained.
Contrary to accounts in certain sectors of the popular press, beer and burger prices were pegged - a stipulation by OASIS
themselves; beer at £2.00 a pint - lower than normal London pub prices and burgers at £2.20.
A police spokesman also dismissed as "utter rubbish" the report that stated a youth brandished a handgun on the Saturday night.
Superintendent Paul Dumpleton of Heartfordshire Police who was in charge of police operations over the weekend said earlier this
week, "Meticulous planning and a huge team effort was invested in this event which made it a resounding success for everyone
involved
