This is something that people have said over the years. K is the 11th letter.
3 11s is said to be KKK. the band has denied this and no one really knows for
sure.

While 311 does stand for KKK. (The 11th letter in the alphabet is K).
They got their name from a police code for indecent exposer. Which their
best friend got arrested for.

Also, do you know you are posting to the friends, no doubt, hole, and korn
sites?

this totally untrue accusation has floated around since the band got
together, and it has been cleared up too many times to count. in their
hometown (i forget where), "311" is the police code for public indecency
or indecent exposure or something like that. the 3-11 connection is not
only a coincidence, but a real stretch, and it was probably a KKK member
who concocted that idea.

oh, i see, so even though the band explained what the name really means,
there's still a possibility that they're connected with a bunch of
hood-wearing racist assholes? if you wanna incite ignorance fear and
hate, try a go somewhere else

if 311 were racist, say members of the kkk, then somebody should explain to
them that doug (sa) is hispanic, therefore if theyre so big on the klan they
shouldnt associate with him so politely.

If you've ever heard a 311 song before you'd know that just about every
lyric in their songs are racist. If you can't pick one out you'd have to
either be really stupid or someone who so far in to his/her racism that
you think it's normal and you don't even notice it when something racist
is said around you.

people, this is what is called a "straw-man" argument. when asked to
prove something he knows is untrue, he responds with further stupidity,
name-calling and accusations, in an attempt to divert from the facts.
he probably thinks he's clever for it. for the record, racism pisses me
off, and i do recognize it when i see/hear it. (can you say "Tommy
Hilfinger"? i knew you could)

no, you're the one losing. you can't prove that you're right because
you can't quote a racist lyric from a 311 song, and the police code

If it's the fact, then why are there so many people saying that it was
their apartment number? The only fact is that 311 stands for KKK and 311
is a racist group.

> If it's the fact, then why are there so many people saying that it was

well, i haven't seen one person on any of these cross posts suggest the
apartment number theory. you want fact? here's the band's statement on
the issue:

"It has come to our attention that there is a very unsettling rumor
circulating regarding the name of our band '311.' We have been told that
certain white supremacist groups use the numbers 311 to represent the
KKK. This is a most unfortunate coincidence and one that is extremely
disturbing to us. We would like to state for the record that this is
completely at odds with our personal beliefs. We believe the only people
worth hating are organized haters like the KKK. Anyone familiar with our
lyrics knows how we feel. Our lyrics make a strong stand against racism
and a strong stand for positivity & unity. The name of our band
originally comes from an Omaha police citation for indecent exposure. We
thought it was funny at the time. Now our name simply means - five
friends from Omaha making music, music that stands for peace and unity."
Sincerely, 311

undenable... ::::getting out moron dictionary::: oh you mean undeniable! ok..
theres this song called electricity on the transistor album, and it happens to
be the 2nd version. originally it was called f*ck the kkk, take a guess on to
what the original lyrics might be..actually i think nick posted them
once..anyway the changed lyrics go something like what follows:

This song started as a rant against haters
But that'd be giving in to the instigators
If there is one thing I'd like to pull off
When someone steps with hate all I do is scoff
You can't burn me
Can't burn me

The same force that flows through every circuit
The juice that is spent everytime you work it
Every life form is based on this simplicity
The soul that you have is electricity

You can't avoid that
Evolution is fact
We're all from the same Lucy
Despite differences you see

I'm in disbelief at what people will believe
All along I thought we had our hearts on our shirtsleeve
If one thing I can say as a piece of advice
Don't believe it till you see it and then see it twice
It's so funny
It's not funny

The same force that flows through every circuit
The juice thats spent everytime you work it
Every life form is based on this simplicity
The soul that you have is electricity

You can't avoid that
Evolution is fact
We're all from the same Lucy
Despite differences you see

A call out for unity
In every province and city
What do you think we've been saying
Since we first started playing

---
so if theyre still a bunch of racist bastards, then you go ahead and believe
whatever your pathetic heart desires

That's kinda funny since if you have the home video "Enlarged to Show Deatail"
(or something like that, I haven't watched it in awhile) they say "Fuck the
KKK!"
And if they were in the KKK Nick wouldn't have song with the Edge since the
frontman is black.
