At first I was unsure if I wanted to go to this concert. It is a 90 minute
drive up there on good days. I had seen the Foo Fighters once before, and the
only person I could find to go with me was my dad. But I finally came around
and got some tickets. This concert was happening at the formerly named Coral
Sky Amphitheater where I saw Metallica and Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains
before at. So me and my dad left like three hours early to get there
because we were traveling during rush hour traffic and my dad wanted to eat
before we got to the concert. The whole trip up we were listening to Chili
Peppers CD's. So we finally get close and the only place to eat that we could
find
was a Burger King. So we ate there and we were off to the concert. We got
there pretty early. We got parking up real close which would later be a bad
thing and got inside by about 6:30 PM. The concert was supposed to start at
7PM. Well, the concert was starting later then expected. There was a group
playing on a second stage but I didn't really care to check them out. Finally
by about 7:20 PM a rap group came out to open the show which was kind of a
surprise. I believe the main rap guy's name was Cool Keith Matthews. They
were trying to get the crowd into it, but the crowd was kind of mean because
they were expecting a big rock show and instead this rap group comes out who's
majority of songs talked about sex and it was kind of monotonous. They ended
after like 20-30 minutes. After that the Foo Fighters were coming up next.
Right as the Foo Fighters hit the stage my dad and I saw a bunch of empty seats
right in the very front. We ended up getting up to the third row of seats
right in front of the stage! It was so awesome! The Foo Fighters played with
such a strong energy that I couldn't believe my eyes. They started out with
Monkeywrench, Learn To Fly and then Breakout. Throughout their set they played
This Is A Call, I'll Stick Around, Big Me, Alone & Easy Target, For All The
Cows, Everlong, Stacked Actors and Next Year but I forgot the exact order in
which those songs were played. Dave came into the audience and I got about
five feet away from him at one point. He actually came into the crowd twice.
Once during For All The Cows where he actually was singing in the crowd behind
me
and the rest of the band was still on stage in front of me. Then during a very
long rendition of Stacked Actors Dave went around the whole Amphitheater and
Chad Smith, drummer for the Chili Peppers came out on stage and helped
Foo drummer Taylor Hawkins play drums. When Dave came back he invited a guy
with spiked pink hair onstage. He made a comment that "you have to have some
balls to do something like that." Dave was really funny during this concert
too. After Monkeywrench Dave Grohl got angry because there were actually
people in the front row sitting in their chairs. Dave stopped the show and
made them stand up because "There were 6,000 motherfuckers wishing they could
be where you are right now and I might just have them kick your ass." Dave
also made some other people get up out of their seats by saying something like
"Don't make me come out there," and that's when he came out into the crowd the
first
time. Dave had also made a comment how "he missed the big time rock shows
where people would light their lighters and smoke some weed." People were
smoking so much weed in the row in front of me which made me a bit
uncomfortable since I went with my dad and he was right there. I'm almost
positive Dave looked straight at me once or twice during the concert since I
was right there and he was staring right at me at one point. I was able to hit
a beach ball around that touched Dave and Nate on stage. At the very end of
the Foo Fighters set Taylor threw out his drum sticks and I got so close to
catching one. It was over my head and off to my left and there were people in
my way and a guy in the row right behind me got it instead. Next were the Red
Hot Chili Peppers. By the start of their set security kicked us out of our
good seating but we found some more standing room about 10 rows from the stage
that we were able to barely get into because security was tight. These were
still a big improvement from the seats we had 11 rows from the stage way in the
right hand corner where it was much harder to see the bands. The Chili Peppers
played Suck My Kiss,
Give It Away, Under The Bridge, Around The World, Scar Tissue, Otherside,
Californication, I Like Dirt, Soul To Squeeze, a cover version of Jimi
Hendrix's Fire and a handful of others. They were incredible as well. I was
drumming on
my legs with my hands the whole night as I know the drum parts to basically
every song played. I screwed up my hearing again for the third concert in a
row. I got stuck in traffic in the parking lot for like 45 minutes to an hour.
On the way home we played all 3 Foo Fighters CD's back. This was probably
the best concert I've ever been to!

Didn't they also play My hero?
I went to the Foo Fighters/ Chili Peppers concert on April 6th I think. I
agree, Dave has so much energy on stage!! But for us, it started out with some
British rock group which I didn't like at all. Then the Foo Fighters were due
up next. The floor was packed because it was general admission. Right before
the Foo Fighters came out the people on the floor busted the barriors!! And so
the manager of the event staff had to come on stage to tell people to move
back, but of course that back fired and the floor was flying with the finger.
So then, Chad Smith and Taylor came out on stage-"Hey, the staff won't let us
play if you dont step back and we really wanna play," said Taylor. People
moved backed but seconds later they busted the barrior again. Dave came out
telling people to get back and he even brought his mom out. Finally the show
started and it kicked!!
And I agree, it was probably the best concert I've ever been to!

No they didn't play that or Walking After You.
Sounds nice. I'd have to nominate:
1) Iggy in November '99
2) Iggy in April '96
3) Nirvana in Octoberish '91
4) Ramones Feb. '96, recorded for live album
5) mudhoney Sep. '98
All the rest are just gravy. :)

I'll join in. The best I've seen were Pearl jam last month, REM last summer
and probably The Foo Fighters on their last tour.
I also saw a pretty cool gig last night at a Virgin store where Idlewild
were playing. There were only 300 people there and after it we got to say hi
to the band and get stuff signed. I even managed to blag a poster from one
of the shop staff!
--
- Simon
Now, what the hell does "blag a poster" mean? :D
Ok, I'll try.
The first Iggy concert was, well, the first one (4/96). They were just so loud
and so rocking, and he kept jumping into the crowd and exposing himself, and he
was playing guitar that night too for a change. It was just thrilling.
The second Iggy concert was the one I was ranting and raving about in November,
if you remember. That may have been the best live show I ever saw, it was just
unreal. HTBT, of course.
Nirvana, well that was on the Nevermind tour, I was 14, they were probably at
their least jaded, most rocking, exciting period. I don't remember much of it,
but it was a total revelation. I had never even seen moshing before. We've seen
the Live! Tonight! videos - that's the kind of shows they were putting on then.
Ramones, I'm a huge Ramones fan, and I have seen them 7 times. That night was
supposed to be there last live show ever, but they ended up doing Lollapalooza
that year so it wasn't. But it was at a great venue, the Academy (which is
closed now), the crowd was so into it, they played a long, hard set, and in the
middle Joey Ramone announced (and this would be cheesy for any other band) that
they were recording the show for a live album (the album is called "We'reOutta
Here").
Mudhoney, that night was just so rocking. They were playing a really small
place called the Bowety Ballroom that normally can hold, like 500 people, and
that night there could not have been more than 200-250 (gives you a clue to why
they split, huh?). It was the perfect setting for them. Before they went on, I
met Mark Arm by the bar and had a little chat. He was nice and friendly. The
opening band was Brother JT (formerly the Original Sins) and they were amazing
too, and Mark Arm was standing there in the audience grooving along. They
played an amzing set.
I dunno, some shows are better than others. I saw Soundgarden at their last NY
show, for example, with Rocket From the Crypts, another *amazing* band opening,
and that show just sucked.
Part of the whole vibe is the venue it's at, how the audience is behaving and
how the band is into it.
That was more than you needed to know, I guess....
Damn! you've caught me going all Scottish on you again!
I managed to persuade the very nice man to give me a poster that wasn't
meant to be given out to the public, being the only one with the cheek to
just ask for it straight out.

I saw the Queens Of The Stone Age recently. They were insane. And
great, of course. "You Can't Quit Me, Baby" was like ten minutes and
perfect all the way through. It was one of the best shows I've seen.

Yup. They're comfortable. :)
They are going to be at Ozzfest, and I'm going (I like to brag). I was
thinking of checking out the Vans Warped Tour as well. Plus I'm going to a
local radio show with Stone Temple Pilots as the headliner, all next month, boy
am I going to be broke!
I saw QOTSA last year. Amazing. I just picked up their new album today, but
I've only gotten to the first song. I just thought I'd mention it.
Supersuckers are playing that. You have to see them.

The Warped tour got kicked outta my town, so they're having it in
Bozeman instead. And that sucks, 'cause now my parents won't let me go
because it was booted from Missoula. *heavy sigh*
Right, and I really like Green Day a lot and a few of the other bands are
really good too that are on the tour. I'll get tickets as soon as I can
guarantee I have enough money to buy 2 tickets for that and the Ozzfest ticket
from my friend.

Yeh, it seems cool. I heard some new tunes. Apparently the bassist
with the cool goatie sings a bit.
By the way, during the show, some dude walked around and handed out
postcards with info on another band, with goatiebassist, Josh Homme
and some other rocker. I'll gladly dig it up from my black hole-esque
backpack if you want info (such as... what they're called). I'm sure
it would float your boat, or something.
Sure, please do.
And that there song "Feel Good Hit of the Summer" rocks serious fucking ass.
It may have the best verse lyrics of all time: "Nicotine, vicodan, marijuana,
ecstasy and alcohol...".

They're called Mondo Generator. Wait -- "mondo"? Heh. Sheep.
Anyway, here's the scoop:
MONDO GENERATOR is the creation of the psychotic minded bassist
Nick Oliveri.
You may remember Nick from such landmark bands as KYUSS (he played
bass from their inception to _Blues For The Red Sun_), and THE
DWARVES (in which he played bass under the moniker Rex Everything).
Nick was kicked out of the Dwarves for being "too f*cked up" (think
about that for a minute). Nick is currently playing bass and
singing in Queens Of The Stone Age.
Meanwhile, MONDO GENERATOR is Nick's own sick little hobby, away
from the day job with QOTSA. The players that Nick has assembled
for _Cocaine Rodeo_ are pure heavyweights. Josh Homme of QUEENS OF
THE STONE AGE. Brant Bjork of FU MANCHU (and formerly also in
KYUSS). Rob Up N Syder of KARMA TO BURN.
So what the hell does it sound like? VERY AGGRESSIVE. VERY HEAVY.
VERY LOUD.
MONDO GENERATOR are like the snot-nosed, drunken kid brothers of
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE. Sure, think about KYUSS, THE DWARVES and
QOTSA. Then think about NEUROSIS, BLACK FLAG and THE DEAD BOYS.
Bikers everywhere will drain kegs of beer to _Cocaine Rodeo_ this
summer, and mr. Nick Oliveri would sincerely like you to join them.
I guess there's more info at southernlord.com.

Oh, I remember that one! Those were like the only lyrics, repeated
over and over again, right? Was the chorus like "goddamn!"? (I'm not
sure if they actually sang that, though.)
Thanks for the tip!
I think the chorus was something like "koo koo k'choo" or some nonsense. Also,
I made a mistake, the lyrics are "Nicotine, VALIUM, vicodan, marijuana, ecstasy
and alcohol".
Great drug song!
HEY! I heard this on the fucking radio two days ago! I immidiately
liked it, but the announcer didn't say who the hell it was. So now I
know! Thanks guys. I learn SO much in AMN. Really.
Plus, I now realize that the chorus is "c-c-c-cocaine!" and not
"koo-koo-kchoo".

Gee, those lyrics completely touch me like no other song has before!
(I still like the song.)
