can someone tell me who wrote Marigold and why did Grohl sing it?

I have to admit that it sounds very impressive , so now i will look at buying
a foo fighter album.

Dave wrote this song quite a long time before Nirvana recorded it.
While he was drumming in Nirvana, he was also recording his own songs
on an 8-track in his friend Barrett Jones' basement (Barrett Jones who
later co-produced the Nirvana track "Curmudgeon" and also produced the
Foo Fighters album).
An early version of Marigold appeared on a short solo cassette that Dave
released anonymously thru a small indie label, while he was still in
Nirvana. The final version of the song, of course, appeared as the
B-side for the UK single, "Heart-Shaped Box."

Christ, I'm sounding like a documentary or something...

his facts wrong)

It was written by Dave Grohl, so that is why he sings it.

I'm not totally positive but I've heard a lot of rumours that Dave
completely wrote all the parts to the song and that's why he sang it. Oh
and it doesn't sound anything like any Foo Fighters song I've ever heard!

It was released under the name "Late!" thru Simple Machines Records,
which is in Arlington, VA (not far from where Dave grew up). I
wouldn't really call it "anonymous" though, because the Simple
Machines catalogs always said "This is the solo effort from the
drummer of a famous rock band, but we can't tell you which one. Oh,
nevermind." or something equally obvious.

The French single as well, and probably others around Europe.

If it's under the name of "Foo Fighters!", it's a bootleg. The only
legitimate release is the cassette on Simple Machines. Artist name of
Late!, album name of Pocketwatch. I've seen the entire album (or just
a few tracks from it) on lots of CD bootlegs, but it's not The Real
Thing.

The Pocketwatch cassette was one in a series of 6 cassette only
releases on Simple Machines from various indie bands. The series had
a specific name but I can't remember what it was.

"Tool Set" I beleive. Perhaps "Tool Kit".
I dunno, I have the catalog somewhere in my messy mecca of oblivion.

Dave Grohl only sang one of the versions of Marigold. That was just a
demo to see if Grohl could sing.Kurt does sing on one of the versions. The
version kurt sings on sounds alot better

i don't know, but maybe sean meant that it was the only song he sang and
wrote with nirvana, after all, this is a nirvana news-group.

If there's a version of Marigold that Kurt sings on, none of us have
ever heard it.

Well, Kurt did not sing backing vocals on the final version released on
the HSB single :-). I also thought he would for a while...but it's
nothing but Dave you were hearing on this version. Just listen more
carefully and you'll see!

i am not talking about the version on pocketwatch, i am talking about
nirvana's version. and if you want to get technical, i heard that lisa
(grohl) played bass on marigold for pocketwatch.
