Out of sheer, sick, curiousity, what the hell does being a fan have to do with
what brand of cigs he smoked? I suppose you'd also like to know the caliber of
the bullet that went through his head huh?

Maybe it'd be a good idea not to cross-post to NGs that have nothing

Who cares anyway? Kurt was just a big wanker and the biggest toss in the
world any way. He was the crappyest muso to walk the earth and i don't
care what anyone else thinks. He wrote sad, crappy songs and killed
himself. With the cult following (from other wankers) he had, he was a
looser to do all that stuff. Lot's of people looked up to him and
followed what he said. He caused LOTS of deaths and other wankerish
things.Well, thats what I think Anyway.

20 million? Wow! I'm amazed. Well, I knew it was a mega-number, anyway.

His songs are beautiful, insightful, and always right on-target. And I'm
not surprised he chose to kill himself, though I don't think that anyone
should ever "choose" suicide.

From what I understand (and unfortunately I know few specific details
about Mr. Cobain's life), Mr. Cobain had a very difficult life.

Kurt might not have been a good guitrist, but he was an .Awesome. song
writer.
All of their songs are different. Alot of the songs have deep meanings.
Well some at least. And personally I belive that Kurt was murdered. I
doubt he commited suicide from all the things ive read.

Dude, Kurdt was like, you know, so deep. You know he was, like,
alternative, and I had someone tell me on, you know, like MTV that alternative
music has like, hiddn meanings sometimes, like you know? And, dude, I read
this website, like it was on the Internet, tha, like, showed how impossible it
was for him to, you know, do it, you know, like kill himself. It was a
conspiracy, dude, because someone told me so.
Kurt Cobain wrote great songs, with the help of three or four other
people. He had problems, and like many people, he killed himself. He wasn;t a
great person when he lived and he isn't a great person now. He was a good
songwriter and musician and he appealed to many people. Some are jealous and
others live vicariously through other poeple's lives. C'est la vie...Steve

Whoever wrote this, I am ashamed that you would call yourself a
musician. Being a musician is not just playing music, it's an entire
way of life.. and one thing, above all, is support of others. You know,
do unto others as you would have them do unto you? I'm not saying you
have to like others music, but always be supportive.. in life, and in
death.

You wouldn't want someone saying stuff like that about you after you had
died, would you?

Yes, he had a wonderful, quaint way of taking drugs, don't you agree?
And his fashion was beyond reproach...what with his second hand clothes,
and his technique of not washing his hair for a week at a time. And it
was even more wonderful when he blew his useless brains out (I'm not
kidding about this), and left his child fatherless, even though she's
much better off for it.

The sun still rises, the seasons still change, Rosanne is still fat, and
Billy Bob Clinton still gets blowjobs, even though Kurt's gone. He
wasn't the first loser to fear life and kill himself, and he won't be
the last. Get over it, and get a job.

Bullshit. What's so good about playing 4 chords? Tons of other bands

Don't be so terribly self-righteous.

Granted, there are people out there who are mindless followers.
Granted, wanting to know what brand Kurdt smoked is a LITTLE
OBSESSIVE.
Granted, there ARE too many non-artists in the music industry.

BUT...

I, am not one of these people, and there are LOTS of people who are
not 'one of these people'.

Do you think you're the only one who thinks?
Do you think you're the only one who hates what 'pop' has
become?

And what is you're criticism of happy music?
Do you think the artist should limit his pallete to Sad colors?
Do you think it is impossible to both be a happy and a thinking
creature?
Do you think that the fundamental nature of the world is sadness
and to be happy is to be ignorant of that nature?

I DON'T

Music isn't about being the fastest or the best guitarplayer in the
world... Some of the best songs have only three or four simple chords,
but they're far better than anything that Vai, Satriani or Van Halen can
play...

I think I saw him smoked Marlboro lights (100's). Don't flame me for
this though.

It is just ironic that some people in this ng behaves. When there's
a player like Yngwie, who can play really fast, and is quite
popular/successful, they say that speed isn't everything, and shredding
is like guitar masturbation.

However, when a guy comes along with 3 chords and start getting #1
hits, these people bash him in that he is not a musician.

So, does being a musician require you to be omniscient about the
instrument, or is it enough if you can muster enough passion and emotion
(in your audience and urself) with your music? I think Kurt Cobain and
Nirvana achieved that, and lots of people were/are inspired by the music.

You can flame for the 3 paragraphs above, though.

Sure Nirvana was cool in their own right, and made that damn boston-style
four chord jam thing huge, but lets face it as a guitarist, not a musician,
he was nothing incredible. A musician, sure he was that. Wrote some mind
bending lyrics. But as a guitarist he really did lack in a lot of places.

As for Yngwie...he is a guiatarist. Through and through. Musician yes, but
you have to be into his style. He's not mere speed. He knows the neck,
inside out and round the sides.

bravo. musicanship isn't about how many clapton and b.b. king (nothing
unagainst them, actually i've only heard 2 clapton and no bb so i
don't have any room to say anything on them) licks you can play or how
many chords you have memorized. it's about what comes from your heart
(or head).

Agreed, but your missing a vital point to music. Arrangement. His solos
were nothing special but the songs as a whole were very good.

But in the end, who gives a fuck about Yngwie? Sure he is technically
brilliant, but as a performer and on CD's he bored the shit out of me. Only
another guitarist can appreciate Yngwie, but anyone can get into Nirvana's
catchy riffs.

Ygnwie is lame because his attitude sucks. Yes... his technical skills as a
giutar player are awesome. But even as a writer he does little more than string
together some very fast classical riffs from his upbringing. When I read Guitar
Player interviews where he claimed Eddie Van Halen ripped him off (lets see that
would have been when Eddie was in his 20's and Wingnut was a sperm cell...), I
really lost a lot of respect for him.

The rock arena is full of second rate guitar players who more than made up for
their lack of technical skills with their ability to wear their sould on their
fretboard. Look at Jimmy page. Creator of the guitar hook, one of the greatest
rock guitarists ever... and he'd be the first to tell you his playing was sloppy
as hell.

Wingnut scores near the bottom with me.

You made an interesting point dude, I don't disclaim that Yngwie is
a great guitar player but I just can't deal with the fact he has an
ego the size of the Empire State Building and is totally in love with
himself. For that fact I'm turned off musically to all his stuff no
matter how good it is.
I guess this doesn't bother some people and they still get into his
music which is fine but I believe his ego trip has turned away alot of
people that might otherwise be fans. Just my opinion...

Now for my .02 on why Mr. Cobain after being dead for about 7 years
still drives people nuts on usenet. I think since many players out
there have guitar skills equal to or better than Kurt's they fall into
the classic "why him and not me" mentality. I mean I practice more
than Kurt did and he was on MTV and sold all those albums...oh poor
me...let me whine and cry some more on how much he sucked...

If the music press, media, and record companies are looking for a
certain type of band with a certain type of sound with a certain image
then it doesn't matter if they suck shit as players or not. They are
in like flint...Oh well, maybe your Mommies and Daddies never told you
life is not fair.

(Remember the bloke in the pub in Harry Enfield and Chums)

Oh Yngwie's alright. Id have no objection to him coming round my place and
having a few beers in front of the TV. But if he were to start coming on to
my wife , and monopolising my Ibanez RG to show off with his widdly paganini
riffs I should say OYE YNGWIE NOOOOOW , I admire your technical genius and
hi speed fretboard antics, I also admire your courage in keeping untamed
ferrets around the house. But just because your internationally known doesnt
mean you dont have to act your age.
Leave susie alone , put the guitar down and get out of my house.

(Unless you've watched british TV that paragraph wont make sense , it might
not even if you have watched brit TV)

On a more serious note. As a guitarist I can apreciate yngwies technical
genius. However his music has no feeling behind it and is just a bunch of
notes.
Not only that , but he is also an arrogant fat git and he acted like an arse
with my mates girlfriend.

First of all it didn't happen like that. The fact was the record
companies went to Seattle AFTER most nowadays well-known "Grunge" (god
what an awful word) bands made their first (and more...) albums. So they
already MADE their own succes without the money. it was AFTER the big
Seattle bang that people without talent but with the right look were
picked off the street and got a contract.

Second...

I !DO! hope you don't mean bands like Nirvana / Mudhoney / Soundgarden
by this, since they really WORKED for their succes. Not many bands
nowadays that would take such risks as they did. Until you have gone to
extremes like these people have, don't EVER say it ain't fair they got
succes and you don't. I believe that people that really have talent and
are willing to do all in their power can always make it. Maybe not be a
big rockstar but to be able to live from your own music.

Yngwie has written some good songs, sure, but he has also written some
really, really gay songs, such as "I Am A Viking." That is the gayest
song I have ever heard, and I can't believe any producer let it be
recorded.

Hey. I like that song! I don't listen to the lyrical content or

Maybe it has a "gay" lyrical content...I don't know. I like the music

Do you expect to be taken seriously? Obviously, songs don't have
sexual preferences. Seriously, though, post here more often. I'd like
to hear some more about these "gay" songs, if you hate them so much,

its cool that youd quote a lyric from such a good and obscure album as this (at
least in my area) but you have the track confused. though i cant remember what
song it is, since i only have a tape of the cd, without a track listing. this
quote is not from the local h song, mayonnaise & malaise. its from some other
one off the same album.

Okay, idiot. Gay does not always have to have a sexual conotation. Get
your mind off sex. And thank you for giving me permission to post. I'll

I have a lot of respect for Nirvana, and despite many of their
shortcomings, I like their music.
However, the effect they had on the popular music industry seems to be
(at least to me) mostly negative, much like the effect of Lucas's Star
Wars on the motion picture industry.
Now, nobody is satisfied with talent. The industry feels the need to
create "events" and is willing to let the music suffer for that.
It's a shame, really.

All the points I have read are valid. Yes, Kurt caused lots of deaths, and
yes not everyone liked his music. But in my opinion, the guy was a genius.
Its just a sad fact that he was unhappy enough to kill himself. End of
story.
BTW, to the original poster, Kurt smoked Winston Lights. Why you should
wish to know this, however, is a mystery to me.

Exactly! And remember, Kurt had that line in that song, "I think I'm
just HAPPY..."

So, take into account that song, and the fact that he had no problem
with cigarettes (other wise known as "Fags") being in his mouth, and I'd
say that old Kurt was probably a peter-puffer in the first degree.
