I remember that Noel Gallagher once said something like: "I was thinking of
Kurt Cobain when I wrote the songs to [insert correct album title here]".
Does anyone know the exact quote?

Or is my memory playing tricks on me again?

Thank you,

I don't know about that, but I remember reading in an interview with
Noel Gallagher about 2 years ago that he said he and kurt were similar
in that they both wrote simple, melodic songs with only 3 chords that
people could relate to.

Hope this helps,

Noel Gallagher also said about Kurt "He was a sad cunt who couldn't
handle the fame"

Only stupid Brits like yourself can relate to Oasis, Gallagher comparing
himself to Cobain is an outrage, both bands write crap lyrics, especially
Oasis.

Least he had the fame, not like your idols, who believe themselves to be the
most popular band in the world.

After Kurt offed himself there emerged what I like to call the Nirvana
revisionism. As I remember it, before he died, everyone knew who
Nirvana was but most could not tell you who the name of their lead
singer was. Secondly, in 1994, Nirvana was a band on the serious
decline. Had he lived, Nirvana would be about where Pearl Jam is (ie
although washed-up, still enjoying a small loyal following but nowhere
close to the mass appeal they had for the three or four months in 91-92)

So while Nirvana was famous, Kurt was not. While Nirvana was extremely
popular, it was only for a very short time. They were the band that
everyone liked, but nobody called their favorite. As I remember it,
people never hailed Nirvana THE band of our generation and the symbol of
1990's youth or whatever until after he killed himself.

They were actually. In Utero was pretty awful, with only about 4 good
songs. The rest was just shite. But saying that, the Acoustic album they
released after that is one of the finest albums around, I was quite
shocked. I thought Bleach was a better album than Nevermind, although
Nevermind is still pretty good. Bleach was bloody excellent

Yes, I dont know anyone who calls them their favourite, although quite a
few like them.

I suppose once some sad tossers tried to mimic him by trying (or
succeeding) to commit suicide then the press took notice and started the
martyr shite. Dont hear them mentioned nowadays really do you? Kurt did
have some talent, but he wasted it with a shotgun.

Chris, surprised at agreeing with Wretch :) The times they are a
changing.

he made it like that, for people wouldn't like it as much, and it wouldn't be
so commercial.

Well, that's actually quite the contrary, about all except perhaps The
Doors, who have never really recieved the tag "Spokesman For A
Generation" at any time, while together or defunct.
