Ya. That's a different version of Closer.

It is NIN, a remix of closer done by Trent for the movie to play during
the opening credits. The remix isn't to be found on the "seven"
soundtrack, however. American McGee, a programmer for id software, wrote
about how he got a copy, which he did by asking Trent for a copy, which
Trent did in fact send him. (Trent is a big fan of id software, in case
anybody doesn't already know that) If you want something very very close
(no pun intended) to that remix, check out the first closer remix album,
and the last track sounds almost the same as the music in "seven". Also,
if you listen to the remix in "seven", note the only lyric in the work,
at the end, you can hear Trent saying "you get me closer to god".

the song for the opening credits of SE7EN is a remix of Closer, and can be
found on the closer to god single

No, that remix is by Trent for the movie, it is by Coil. It was edited for
the movie. I don't know about the id programmer getting a copy, but why he
didn't buy the superior Closer single is beyond me.

Coil were very pissed off at the filmmakers for not citing them for the
use of their remix. (They're also pissed off at WaxTrax, but that's
another story.)

Yes, although I can't remember if it was track 2, one of the Closer
remixes was used during the opening of the movie.
I picked up my copy at Best Buys, but that was well over a year ago...
Good luck,
John

For what it's worth, their itty-bitty credit was added when the movie was
released on laserdisc; granted, some really tiny lettering was used to
squeak their name in between all of the other junk that was scrolling
past, but it's there nonetheless. As for the tape release, the only one
that I've seen was already so fuzzy from overuse that I couldn't tell if
it was there or not.
Anyhow, just a stupid little correction to fill my otherwise empty
afternoon.

Surprising that the music reminded you of NIN, considering that it is....
:)
I can't remember which, but it's a remix of Closer. Precursor remix maybe?
Anybody going to correct me?

Simon.

The North American version is just called 'Closer To God', and the
Precursor mix is track two on it, but yes, it is Track four on the
European version (track four on disc 1 that is... which is Further
Away).

You can find the Import (2 CDs) at basically any music store, but I lost
my domestic version, and everywhere I go tells me it is out of print...

Actually, it was an independent remix done exclusively for the film.

the remix of that song is on the "Closer" single and now the only way you
can find it is via imports, it exists on two discs (about 12.00 each) and
has a few remixes

Just go to the imports section of just about any large music
store....they should have them....by them i mean that the UK version is
two CD's...the first one has Closer (Precursor), which is the version
from SE7EN....careful though, i bought each one for $12

Based heavily on our Precursor Mix of Closer. We don't recieve a credit in
the movie or video release which pisses us off even to this very day. The
Lazerdisc DOES credit us in some way.I hate the way the film industry
pisses all over the sources they derive their inspiration from.

Yours John Balance of COIL. Just checking out the site...OK...Egosurfing!

Don't get me wrong, I love the Closer remixes, but it would be kind of
silly to buy each disk for $12... I paid about 7 dollars for each of
them (a much less absurd price :) ...)

Well, just my five dollars worth...
/me thinks I need to pop one of them closer CD's into his player.
/me wishes he hadn't lost his damn domestic single...
