wait... now, from much reading, I assume that non-ass means Canadian. I
think I've figured that part out. But, don't them merkins(Americans)
have the whole Boxing Day thing going on too?
eh?
Or maybe I should just check google again. bah.

I don't think Americans do as I mentioned it to a friend of mine and he'd
never heard of it.
I think its a Commonwealth country thing-Canada, Australia, NZ etc.
NO idea where the Boxing came from

You're correct on the assless=Canadian connection (don't take it
personally; it's a private joke) but I assure you...
Most Americans don't have a clue as to what Boxing Day is, or that it even
exists. Unless we are unwittingly celebrating it by mobbing the stores for
after-Christmas sales, I'd say that Americans generally picture a holiday
where everyone in Canada takes the day off to watch men pummel each other
in the ring.

OMIGOD. An update with a sigfile section! Now, what to put in it...
Yeah, isn't that the day where we box up all the shit that doesn't fit
or just plain sucked and take it back to the store. Merry Boxing Day!
Now box that shit up and give me a fucking receipt!! Goddamn
minimum-wage-having-to-work-on-christmas-oh-poor-me-fuck! I don't care
that your fucking crack baby is at home dying of hunger and you have to
schlep my packages to and fro the car in the blistering cold for minimum
wage while I make derisive remarks about your overly greasy hair and the
5 day stubble poking through your control top pantyhose. I WANT TO
EXCHANGE THESE ITEMS! Somebody spent a lot of time thinking about what
I wanted for Christmas, went out to the store, spent their money and
completely FUCKED UP! Who in their right mind would think that *I*
would want *this* piece of shit. Wait...What?!?! IN STORE CREDIT?!? I
don't think so bitch, you'd BEST give me my fucking money right now!!!
*ahem* sorry 'bout that.
<was that a good stereotypical American consumer?>
That's what Boxing Day is all about, right?
Happy New Year everyone!!!

Boxing Day
Boxing Day is a holiday celebrated in Britian, Australia, New
Zealand, and Canada. Boxing Day falls on December 26th, which is also
St. Stephen's Day. The holiday for Boxing Day takes place on the
following Monday if Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday. The
traditonal celebration of Boxing Day includes giving money and other
gifts to charitable, needy people, and people in service jobs. The
holiday originated from the middle ages (A.D. 400's-1500's).
Boxing day is a tradition in English Colonies. They would
"box up" their unwanted clothes and other things for the poor. Now
it's just "another day off".
In England, the holiday has evolved into a celebration of the
family. Christmas Day was always the day you spent at home with your
family, but Boxing Day would always be the day you would go to your
grandparents' home. A Boxing Day meal usually includes ham or roast
lamb. Boxing Day has also come to incorporate sports, such as soccer,
and general activity after Christmas.

This is all technical babbling to what is outdated folklore.
Commermorating the Queen and her loyal commonwealth, including us assless
folk. It was a way for us to return shoddy gifts. For the queen it was an
excuse to stockpile crap given to her by her ungrateful family --
"Tis the occasion to slappeth people in the back by returning gifts, and
giveth stores a day to clear out their warehouses at discount prices!"
How I love and hate this day. I went and bought $20 worth of groceries
that on any other day would normally cost $80!! Unfortunately, it took me
an hour to find parking and an hour to get through the store. hehe!
Walmart really has to get rid of those automated walkways. Because when a
stupid fuckin' couple gets their kiddie Pram caught at the top of the
walkway and people start falling on top of them... well, there's hell to
pay I tell ya! HELL TO PAY!

The Chapters near my house is closing, so everything is at least 50%
off. I went and bought 3 books and I might buy more tomorrow.
For those who care:
-Fight Club (already read it, but thought I'd like to have my own copy)
-Nineteen Eighty-Four
-No Logo
mmmmmm Boxing Week sales... actually, aside from that, you don't really
get a whole lot of deals around here anymore. I've even seen higher
prices at "boxing day sales". hell... I bought The Score DVD for
$33.00(canadian). That's insane, but I had a gift certificate, so it
wasn't THAT bad... or something.

Short for "perambulator". It's a baby carriage.

Heh.
FANTASTIC book. Better than Fast Food Nation, in my opinion. Should
be required reading for anyone who is a consumer.
on the fiction side, my current recommended book is All Families are
Psychotic by Douglas Coupland. Beauty.

Is that Zodiac the Eco-Thriller, or Zodiac the Serial Killer? I am
assuming the former since it's your calling, but it could be the latter too
I suppose now that it's been made into a miniseries and given some
notoriety.

Speaking of Movie Novels, I'm working my way through _A Beautiful Mind: A
Biography of John Forbes Nash, Jr._ by Sylvia Nasar. I want to read it
before I go see the Ron "Howardized" treatment of the material. Apparently
Nash was even more imbalanced in his personal life then is depicted in the
movie... how much more so is yet to be seen. I am also perpetually re-
reading the Body for Life series of Bill Philips 12 week EAS campaigns.
I'm a sucker for the motivational self-help don't sweat the small stuff
kinda literature.

they do, the fucking asswipes.
~lupa (no, i'm not bitter. oh, and smrrches to drrkle!!)
I wouldn't go so far as to say a "great" read. I've always thought that
the movie adaptations of Philip K. Dick's novels (ie: Bladerunner, Total
Recall) were better than the novels, and I don't think that about many
movies (was Re: Quit trying with the Dune movies...you'll never get it as
good as Frank Herbert's novel!).
But it certainly is a good book, and well worth the time to read it. It
does give a bit of insight into the Ridley Scott movie.
