| |/ | | (No synths pretty cool version)
| | | /
| | |/ Adapted and tabbed by Charles Matthews (of
Rigor Mortis)
and his magical guitar.

The Perfect Drug basically consists of two riffs played with different
methods.

(Muted all the time with palm three times, then "normally" when the vocals
come in,
with or without distortion, depending on what sort of mood you're in)

|-----------------------------------|
|-----------------------------------|
|------------------7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9--|
|--7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9-7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9--|
|--7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9-5-5-5-6-6-6-7-7--|
|--5-5-5-6-6-6-7-7------------------|

(After the first verse, the backing vocals come in going "Oooooooh!")
Play this 4 times, cutting the sound after each chord.

|--------------------------------------|
|--------------------------------------|
|--7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9---------------------|
|--7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9----7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9--|
|--5-5-5-6-6-6-7-7----7-7-7-8-8-8-9-9--|
|---------------------5-5-5-6-6-6-7-7--|

Then comes the chorus (you are the perfect drug, etc),
play this however many times, I like it with distortion.

|--------------------|
|--------------------|
|--------------------|
|--3-------6----8----|
|--3-------6----8----|
|--1-------4----6----|

Once you know all these bits, you can play the song by applying them
whenever necessary.
If you want to showoff synths at all, (like the bit in the video just
before the
drum solo when he's in front of those flashing lights) then remember to
use an F.
The chorus on keyboard is F, G# A#. The piano bit at the end is:
G#, G#, C D D# A# G#, G#, etc.
It's damn hard to do much more with it apart from showoff bits on the
keyboard.

And now, the lyrics:

the perfect drug

i got my head but my head is unravelling
cant keep control can't keep track of where it's travelling
i got my heart but my heart's no good
you're the only one that's understood

i come along but i dont know where you're taking me
i shouldn't go but you're wrenching dragging shaking me
turn off the sun pull the stars from the sky
the more i give to you the more i die

and i want you

you are the perfect drug
the perfect drug
the perfect drug
the perfect drug

you make me hard when i'm all soft inside
i see the truth when i'm all stupid-eyed
the arrow goes straight through my heart
without you everything just falls apart

my blood just wants to say hello to you
my fears want to get inside of you
my soul is so afraid to realize
how every little bit is left of me

and i want you

you are the perfect drug
the perfect drug
the perfect drug
the perfect drug

take me with you

without you everything just falls apart

it's not as much fun to pick up the pieces

That's all for now. Have fun!

Um, Okay, can someone please explain the numbers in the lines? The only
instrument that I'm familiear with is the piano, but I would like to know
abou the other stuff.

I really think I should have continued music lessons as a child. :/

It's guitar tablature. Guitar tablature is different from reading music
and was in fact the original way they would write out songs on the
guitar. Each line represents a guitar string. Each number represents
which fret you hold to pick the string. If there are three or more
numbers all lined up together vertically, that means you strum it as a
chord. If there are two numbers at a time together, they are picked at
the same time. If the number appears by itself, that means you pick it
and it alone...
There's all kinds of other stuff too, but I don't feel like explaining
it.. =)

Um, dethbed, youre cool and all, but I have to say...you gotta be
fucking kidding me!

Oh well, here I go...

On a guitar you will find these metal dividers called frets (putting
your finger in between the metal dividers is placing your finger on a
fret). From one side of the guitar to the other, the frets are
basically what keys are to a piano. The frets are numeric (the
largest/lowest fret is the 1st fret, and if you see a "0" that means
"open" or play the string without touching any frets.

Ok, when you look down on your guitar, you should see 6 strings (I
hope). The 6 lines of a tab symbolize the six strings. Like so:

(this is GRATITUDE by the BEASTIE BOYS)

-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------
----5------------------------------------------------
--7----7--7--0--5--6--7--7---------------------------
-------------------------------3-4-5----------repeat-

The lines are the strings, and the numbers are what fret you are
sposed to play. The first number (7) means you take the 5th string
(the second from the last or the second "fattest" string) and put your
finger between the 7th largest division (or the 7th fret). You will
see that the 5th note says "0" that means you play it "open" or dont
touch any frets. The 10th notes means you switch to the 3rd fret, 6th
string (the big ol' fat string). And the "repeat" means that if youre
smart enough to understand what the fuck I just said, you should know
what the hell "repeat" means, asshole! ;)

Well, thats bout it for me...

*bow*

-=[I really think I should have continued music lessons as a child. :/

I know how you feel, but its never too late (unless you have 24 hours
to live, then I'm guessing its too late).

you cant have a tab for the perfect drug for two reasons.
1. There really isn't any guitar in it.
2. The little chromatic scale thing during the song is micro tonal. For
all you non musical rock and roll sixth graders out there that means
that the steps between each note are smaller then the steps between the
frets on your guitar. You'd have to retune a keyboard or something to
get that sound.

or sample yerself playing muted guitar in your own personal studio in the
funeral home, process it with a variety of echo-reverb effects, save it
onto a zip disk, give to trent, and let him "borrow" it

btw, it's a helluva a lot easier to do microtonal stuff on a guitar than
a keyboard...well, nevermind, there's pitch bend...but anyway, all you
really have to do is bend the strings slightly as yer mute-picking...i
dunno, tpd's bass/guitar/whatever line sounds like a chromatic scale to
me...up 3 1/2 steps, down 2 half steps, up 3 1/2 steps, whatever...

btw, (keep in mind this is not a flame, just an FYI)...microtones are not
part of the chromatic scale...that means the little scale thing is either
chromatic (using the 12 tones of atonal music) or microtonal, but not
both

umm there is.. just that is covered over by synth.. (actually its sounds
like someones using a guitar thru a midi-converter.. and mixing both at
the same time..

the chorus sounds like

(dont have a tuner.. so i might be HORRIBLY wrong)

i think its in eb

Eb-Ab-Db.. or something like that...

and the end bit is

2 4 5 | 2 5 7
2 5 5 | 2 5 5
0 0 5 | 0 3 3

as far as i can tell... ( ie its not perfect...)

and the begginging bit is just a continual string bend/slide up..

starting at ab and changing to eb.. (i think.. no guitar with me...)

umm you CAN do micro tonal stuff on guitar.. you just bend the strings
until its gone over to the next semi-tone and then shift position to the
next fret..

or if you have hands of solid titanium you could just keep
bending....(*SNAP!!*)

trent did this before on TDS at the start of eraser..(the
bending/dischordant bits..)

simple.. no x thousand dollar synths involed... just a bit of finger
strength.. (doesnt work thru a midi-converter tho.. it will ignore the
bend until it makes the next semi-tone shift.. and then play to that..
unless the new versions have bending samples...)

but the question is: with so many BETTER NIN songs.. why would you bother
covering this.. (and part 2: does your drummer have 8 arms...)

sorry to butt in, but tis fairly easy to do full non-equal tempered
microtonal scales on, say, old yamaha gear. which can be had for 100$ (tx
7, or 180$ for tx81z). and the idea of doing _accurate_
microtonal music on a guitar is ridiculous (disregarding a fretless guitar
in the hands of a partch devotee.. of course...)

(and just to argue with my own post, before _you_ do, accuracy is not
always to be desired)
