Well the beautiful and talented Mr Saville rambled on for quite a long
time last evening... he talked without notes, to an audience mostly
filled with design students and cybertrash... us old relics were
delighted by how far off the path he rambled, telling all sorts of old
Factory stories (as the cybertrash's eyes glazed over; you could tell
most of these people were even born when the Factory Sample came out)...
he told all sorts of hilarious stories about the NO sleeves, in
particular the Best Of sleeves, which were the result of intensive focus
group testing (really)... he finished up by showing some of the Show
site, which will be completed, but probably not for awhile... they had
investors who wanted to pay for it, but Saville and Knight wanted to
keep it free of profit motive, so they are only working with people who
will donate their time... so its anyones guess when it will be up...
Saville himself can barely turn on his powerbook, so he is clearly
leaving that aspect to a company of techno geeks... the correct address
will be showstudio.com

Anyway it was a delightful blast from the past for this old fart... you
know, I DO feel lucky to have been around during those days... I dont
think that we will see that particular mixture of mystery and magic
anytime soon

Well you can kill, but I dont think it will do you much good... he was
speaking as part of a series that the SF chapter of the AIGA is putting
on... he was brought to SF because Brett Wickens and Kit Heinrichs are
here basically... Brett introduced him and talked about being a teenager
in Canada, seeing the Factory sleeves and moving to London on a whim to
work with him...

Yep this is what the web SHOULD be about, but of course rarely is... its
a complete labor of love by applied artists who place little to no value
on money or the things it brings

Yes I though it would just be a quickie run through of his greatest
hits, but as I said, he went on for a long time with all sorts of
obscure stories... quite delightful...

How did I find out about it? I know everything, havent you realized
that?

A.

Thanks for the report on Saville. Why was he speaking?? Is he 'on tour' or
was it just a one off dedication or something??? I'd kill to be able to
check him out on the east coast.

Good to know the website will one day be a reality, and NOT have banner
ads....

Sounds like an amazing evening. How did you find out about it?? What was

the reason for the talk? Boy, I am filled with questions.
