Damn! This letter was sent to my boss at the ISP I work at. I have been
running my FTP for about 5 months. This is crazy. Do any of you think that
by changing the IP and port# would throw these guys off?

"Re:

Dear Mr:

I am contacting you on behalf of the Recording Industry Association of
America, Inc. (RIAA) and its member record companies. The RIAA is a trade
association whose member companies create, manufacture and distribute
approximately ninety (90) percent of all legitimate sound recordings sold in
the United States. Under penalty of perjury, we submit that the RIAA is
authorized to act on behalf of its member companies in matters involving the
infringement of their sound recordings, including enforcing their copyrights
and common law rights on the Internet.

We believe your service is hosting the above-referenced site on its system.
This site, which we accessed on 12/24/2002 at 12:15:04 p.m.(EDT), offers
approximately 6,511 sound files for download. Many of these files contain
recordings owned by our member companies, including songs by such artists as
Alicia Keys, Ashanti, Craig David, Creed, Dirty Vegas, Jennifer Lopez,
Musiq, Nelly, No Doubt, and Usher. We have a good faith belief that the
above-described activity is not authorized by the copyright owner, its
agent, or the law. We assert that the information in this notification is
accurate, based upon the data available to us.

We are asking for your immediate assistance in stopping this unauthorized
activity. Specifically, we request that you remove the site, delete the
infringing sound files or that you disable access to this site or the
infringing files being offered via your system. In addition, please inform
the site operator of the illegality of his or her conduct and confirm with
the RIAA, in writing, that this activity has ceased.

You should understand that this letter constitutes notice to you that this
site operator may be liable for the infringing activity occurring on your
service. In addition, under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, if you
ignore this notice, you and/or your company may also be liable for any
resulting infringement. This letter does not constitute a waiver of any
right to recover damages incurred by virtue of any such unauthorized
activities, and such rights as well as claims for other relief are expressly
retained.

Thank you in advance for your prompt assistance in this matter. If you have
any questions, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at
antip...@riaa.com, via telephone at (202) 775-0101, or via mail at RIAA,
1330 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., Suite 300, Washington, D.C., 20036. Please
reference Case ID ###### in any response or communication regarding this
infringement.

Sincerely,

Anti-Piracy Unit
RIAA"

You deserve to be harrassed because you listen to music from the RIAA.
Loser. Listen to music from true independents, not music that makes the RIAA
rich.

You're running a public FTP site full of MP3 files?

You're a frickin' moron.

Put the server behind a firewall and TEMPORARILY allow access from your
friends' IP addresses ONLY WHEN THEY REQUEST IT.

Considering how ghetto the RIAA is getting with suing people and the
DOJ getting into it and all I would close that shit down as quick as I
could...it's not worth it.

Its not a good idea to post someones email address such as you did when you
posted antip...@riaa.com . Don't you realize that they might get spammed
to death if you post their email address antip...@riaa.com . In the
future please don't post email addresses such as antip...@riaa.com .

Yes, this is correct.

A lot of people could search the net and find programs like "Avalanche"
"Kaboom" or any other e-mail bomber programs that can send 1000 emails per
minute to the nice people of the RIAA.
This will definately clog their email antip...@riaa.com

Another thing that not so nice people can do is to post their email,
antip...@riaa.com , on any pop ad window that appears when you are
surfing.

You should be more carefull not to post any e-mails (like the one from the
RIAA antip...@riaa.com for example) in any newsgroups.

It's good to be recognized. Thanks, fans. And remember, buy ALL my CDs from
a reputable dealer. Ask to see the RIAA approved label on the case.
