If you are wanting to develop a program that will connect to the CDDB
then look at this FAQ...
http://www.gracenote.com/FAQs.html/faqset=dev/page=0

If you just want to access the database yourself, the URL is, strangely
enough...http://www.gracenote.com/

I have been trying to connect to CDDB and still can't. The HELP for
CDEX leave a lot to be desired. I've got a valid e-mail address in the
e-mail field and still can't connect.
Could someone point me in the right direction? This is getting
annoying as hell...

Have you tried selecting a different server? In CDex > Options > Settings
> Remote CDDB tab > drop down list.

You also need to supply a valid e-mail address.

I can't imagine how much more help you would want them to provide. They
do everything but come to your house and hold your hand. Did you
actually look under CDDB options in the help menu?

One of many considerations taken up in the help menu.

Yes, I imagine it is.

Yeah smartass - I DID look under CDDB options in the menu - and yeah I
did put in a valid e-mail address - and the ONLY servers that show up
in the drop down list are none.....no need to be a condescending prick
about things - fuckhead.
And as far as more help is concerned, how about a little more
description besides CONNECTION FAILED FOR REASON 10069 - real
descriptive.

You explored all options like firewall and proxy? I don't know which
version of CDex you're using, mine is version 1.30 and has several
servers to choose from including freedb.

CQ helps a lot of people in this group. I don't think his post was
enough to bring the wrath of Anthony Robinson down on him.

And did you also push the button that says "Query sites"...the one that
will populate the list of servers so you can choose one? The one which
CDex "help" explains (after you type CDDB in the index tab) in this
manner...

"CDDB servers come and go. To obtain a fresh list of CDDB servers
(via an Internet connection) click on the Query sites button."

That enough description for you?

dadiOH
...what's that saying? You can lead a horse's ass to water...

I see you express yourself as well as you read. My point was that a
reading of the help file in CDex would give you a lot more potential
problem areas to explore other than the email address. I guess that, as
well as any sort of intelligent speech, particularly in anger, is beyond
you.

What makes you think the other people in this newsgroup want to read your
pathetic and vulgar attempts at putdowns? If you have so much problem
with the free program then either use another one or ask reasonably for
help with it, without getting all wound up and sharing your bad attitude
and even worse grammar with everybody.

I believe you have made it eminently clear who is the "fuckhead" here.

Point is - accessing CDDB is a known problem for years, maybe eons. A good example is CDex The current support is both inefficient AND the very definition of 𝑼𝒔𝒆𝒓-𝑯𝒐𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒆.
The "query" button fails. I checked it multiple times. Canceled firewall, no proxy used - and it still fails.
To find a solution the user has to search by himself for servers, as the provided list only 2 options, both down.
Then the user has to gather the necessary parameters - again, this is everything but user-friendly.

To summer - CDDB feature in CDex is deeply flawed. It lacks both in functionality and UI/UX. Better acknowledge this than being self-righteous.
