~Karen E~
Phil Travers did the early covers...and he came up with some really nice ones!
But you know, Karen, I really doubt that they have some form of set "formula"
for those sort of things.
Kevin
Oops. The album isn't called "Every Good Deserves Boy Favor." ;)
Kevin
Since you are still new here, it gives me a chance to go on about how much I
love the early covers. Since I was also very much into my artwork at the
time when I purchased the majority of my albums, I have to say that the
covers had at least a part in what "drew" me to the MBs. ( Pardon the pun, I
couldn't resist!) I just thought that with such wonderful lyrics, Justin's
soul-piercing voice and such inspired and creative artwork on the covers,
this band HAD to be amazing. I haven't gone wrong with my choice for a
favorite group!
I really would like to find out some information on the album covers. I know
who did them, but I always wanted to know more about the ideas behind them
and the connection with the band, since he did so many of them. As I have
stated before, it was my greatest wish to be able to design an album cover
for the MBs. (Well, it's OK to dream, isn't it?)
Let me know if you, or anyone else knows of a site with information on this
topic.
Thanks!

I bought EGBDF without ever having heard any of the songs. I saw that cover
and I knew that what was inside HAD to be great. Besides, I had a friend
that worked in the biggest record store who alerted me when a new MBs album
was in. Back at that time, I really had a weakness for certain albums. I
only bought a few others without hearing the music first...mostly early
Jackson Browne.

Or not.
Depends on your frame of mind, yes?

Let's see ......... SS is mine.
moody .... not recalling if Phil did it or not.
Sue :)
Yeah, I know what you mean, sue. a few weeks ago I bought some album by Alan
Parsons (time machine) that had a really wonderful cover, but the music didn't
do much for me!
But, no one can deny the beauty of some of the MB covers. The Maxfield Parish
rendering of "the present" is magnificent. I met a fan online a few years ago
that told me she went to the trouble of painting it on her ceiling.
cheers,
Cia
I love this album as well. Perhaps they were inspired by him!
cheers,
Cia
Yup! Travers did do the SS cover.

Yes, TP has a very nice cover.
I managed to download the Maxfield Parish painting (as a jpg
graphic) from a website a while ago. Sometimes I like to use it
on my desktop. It's interesting to compare the two.
I'd like to find a few websites that have really good images of
Phil Travers album covers. Sure sites have the Moody covers
but the graphics are either really small are else they're distorted.
I'd also like to find a few sites that offer Roger Dean's art too.

hehehe
I'm not sure which Moody cover is my fav but OTTOAD is very good.
I also like LDV's cover.
I don't think the cover of KOTK is very nice but I guess it could have
been worse though.
>Is there any significance to the Moodies' album cover art? Does the
>band have any pre-knowledge of what the cover will look like?
I think they get to choose the cover, but I don't know how they pick them. I
wonder where that info would be. Did they pick the early ones, or did Phil
Travers? I know they did an interview and said that the cover to "Strange
Times" had no significance.
They just liked the way it looked. I wish I had more info for you. Didn't LDV
have a space theme?
Cath
Kevin, mine is ISOTLC. My daughter also liked it the best, and I can't
remember if she was in elementary or high school, but she did a really nice
watercolor of it. It came out really nice. I hope that when she gets out of
college, if she can't find a job in the field of art she doesn't turn to
forgery(just kidding :)) :). She also did some nice charcoal, or maybe even
pencil, I'll have to find them now, sketches of the Moodies, just faces. The
only one she couldn't get down was John. the hair and all was wonderful, but
she couldn't get the nose right. I liked the one of Graeme the best. That one
looked like him the most. Ray also looked just like him. Justin's was nice too,
she had the structure of his face, the shape of his eyes, and his hair just
right. Did you want to know all that :)? She did the sketches in elementary
school. I usually just like color stuff, but her black and white stuff,
especially her college stuff, is great.
Cath
>To be totally honest, I don't really care what the cover art is. I buy it for

True, while they used to be works of art, most now try to
shock the sh*t out of you to get your attention. Anybody notice this
too?

Yes!

And being a Mom, you must have a stack of her art work
somewhere to pull out years from now.
*sigh*
memories
moody .... who's Mom did the same thing and then sent them to me
later.

Sure did. See little Voyager up in the sky on top to the
left?
Funny, with all the space music on TOCCC, there should have been
Voyager hiding there, yes???

Yes! I think that is really interesting. She sounds a little like me when I
was younger. Where does she go to college? Does she study Art?
I'd love to see some of her work if you ever could photograph it.
Good luck to her!

Actually, Nida, it's all over the place, and she won't let anyone touch her
high school in-school stuff and college stuff. She said she needed it after
college. I'm hoping that she becomes famous and they are worth money :).
Cath
>She sounds a little like me when I
>was younger. Where does she go to college?
She attends a liberal arts college, we looked at art colleges, but we only
liked one, that was supposed to be relocating to a very unsafe neighborhood
because it was part of a regular college. They haven't relocated yet, though,
and she was upset when she found out they were still at the original location.
> Does she study Art?
Yes, she's majoring in art. She was going to minor in psychology, but she was
looking at job things on the computer and decided to minor in biology as she
now wants to have the credentials to be a medical illustrator if she decides to
try that. She boards, but is home for the summer, and was e-mailing a biology
teacher to see if she can get the required amount of courses in time. Her
advisor is an art teacher whom she has had a few classes from already, and the
college is really small, so there is plenty of guidance to make sure she is
taking the correct classes. She will be a junior when she goes back, and
already she has worked with many mediums. She did a bust of "The Rock" :), and
she had to do a chicken wire frame, and plaster paris and make the thing from
scratch, and then paint it. It weighs a ton ;), and it looks just like him :).
My brother took the three kids to the wrestling matches when they came here,
and he wanted to take it with him and try to get it signed :). My nephew knew
someone who worked at the venue, but he wasn't there that night, so they didn't
take it. She's been on the Dean's List each semester, and has to work very
hard because she has dyslexia.
I think she has talent because she comes from a family(and every relative I
can think of going way back) of drawers of stick people :).
>I'd love to see some of her work if you ever could photograph it.
I'll try to do that.
>Good luck to her!
Thanks, Kim :). With all her hard work, and a little luck :), I think she can
be quite successsful in whatever she chooses.

I am impressed. A difficult thing to have and she's doing
