Great interview. I wonder if Billy Bob Thornton has signed the
petition for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to nominate and induct the
Monkees?
Probably shouldn't ask when meeting BBT about the movie role as it
probably wouldn't be the appropriate time. If he gets the movie role,
then he might could ask BBT.But, may your friend break a leg on
getting the role. (For those unaware souls, it's considered bad luck
to wish an actor good luck - wishing the actor to break a leg is to
wish good luck to the actor.) :-)

So true! And you never say "break a leg" to a dancer - for them,
before they perform, the proper way to wish them luck is to say
"Merde!" ( French for sh**). Don't you love show business?
LOL! I didn't know the one about a dancer but whoooo, 'tis funny, the
showbiz lot. How can one not love them?
Truly!
I have heard so many stories as to why that particular saying came to
mean "good luck" for dancers but I really have no idea why it's used.
One story says that in the days of yore, when people came to
performances in horse drawn carriages, wishing a dancer "merde" meant
you wished them a big audience ( lots of people coming and thus, the
"parking lot", as it were, would be filled with horses and horse, er,
doodle). Another story is that it's sort of a wry French way of
wishing someone the best but not jinxing them by wishing them well,
like in some cultures where parents are told their new babies are ugly
or worthless, so any bad spirits lurking about and listening would not
be interested in taking the child. There are other stories but I
can't remember them right now!
Hmm...I keep wishing, hoping and praying that I win the lottery. And I
never do. So, maybe I should take the reverse approach? Let's see:
Okay, I don't want to win the lottery. I couldn't deal with all that
money. It would break my piggy bank, so I hope I don't win! But, let's
see, no I really want to win but someone wishing me good luck would be
wishing me bad luck, so I guess someone could wish me good luck by
saying, "I hope you go broke!" Wonder if that would do the trick? LOL!
