Anybody see Rob Zombie on VH1's The List? The topic was the baddest boys of
rock n' roll, & his top pick was G.G. Allen. George Thorogood threw it out,
'cuse he never heard of G.G., but then again his picks included Bob Dylan &
Paul McCartney...

I've never heard any of GG's stuff, but I've heard of him enough times on
here n' the Misfits Bible n' stuff...

GG is someone you need to experience via video, and he's definitely worth
checking out. Unless of course you are not into bald men in womens panties
shitting onstage, eating it, then throwing it into the audience. All
nonsense aside the music wasn't half bad, and the first couple albums were
great. People can talk about Screamin Jay, Alice Cooper, gwar etc... but
once you see GG Allin you will realize that he is the rule to all punk
performance "art" should be measured. Try to get a copy of "Hated" it's a
documentary video, and worth searching out. Of course if you actually
like watching GG get jiggy with his shitshute then you are obviously either:

A) A hardcore criminal or serial killer (Gacy was a GG fan!)
B) Hopelessly retarded
C) A well adjusted punk with an excellent sense of humor

You be the judge...

Well... that may be because George Thorogood (you mean George Thorogood is
still alive?) is a butt-munch, or maybe he's just the epitome of the general
American public, with it's ignorance and fear of what "he never heard of"

I missed the part about McCartney & Dylan the first time around. Hmmm,
although both are excellent musicians and co-wrote the book on being
influential, calling them "Bad Boys" is akin to calling Malcolm X "whitey."

I missed the show but my top three would be:

1) GG Allin
2) Iggy Pop
3) Jerry Lee Lewis

Sure there are others but these three pushed the envelope more than any
before or since. Honorable mention goes to Jim Morrison & Stiv Bators.

FWIW - Gwar wouldn't even have an act without GG, the original Scum Fuck.

GWAR has nothing to do with "GG," /dev. I know that you have never payed much
attention to the band, so I'll enlighten you. GWAR is a mixture of mythology,
punk rock music, and an exciting stage show. The mythology part is what true
GWAR fans really dig, because each album they write is like a new page out of
GWAR history (except Carnival of Chaos... we'll forget about that one).
Anyway, IMO you shouldn't say anything about GWAR if you have no clue what they
are actually like.

Andy you are an absolute moron. What I said was Gwar wouldn't have an act
without GG. GG paved the way for them. Come on they shoot pseudo cum-jizz,
GG threw shit. Shocking is as shocking does. If it were not for GG breaking
down the acceptable barriers bands like gwar wouldn't be doing what they are
today. I have seen many gwar vids and I understand exactly what they are
about. You obviously have never seen a GG Allin show or you would never
have responded to that post.

I've been reading your posts Andy and it's obvious to me (and every other
person in this ng) that you have never really listened to the original
Misfits, you have never listened or watched a GG Allin video, your
girlfriend has more coolness in her fucking pinky than you could ever wish
to have. Should I go on? Go crawl back under the rock from whence you came.

True dat my man. Being that im really the only GWAR worshipper in this
forum. I know for a fact that some of them were influenced by GG...and a
few others such as...

Misfits
Alice Cooper
Kiss
etc.

I just forget where I read it...I knew i shouldve asked the drummer last
week at the Pittsburgh comicon.

Okay, with your "logic," DEVNULL, the first person who played baseball paved
the way for people to play tennis in the future. I could really give two shits
if you think that I haven't listened to the original Misfits before. Because
really you know nothing about me, you are just trying to start a fight to ease
the boredom of your job. As for my girlfriend having more "coolness in her
fucking pinky than (I) could ever wish to have," she does, but since when do we
run the world on "coolness." Get out of high school and into the real world,
DEVNULL. Of course Diana is great, but get off of her jock, it's really sad.
Go back to your "wife and kids," you sad... sad man.
As for this statement:

<<Come on they shoot pseudo cum-jizz,

Wow, that's logic. I guess GWAR and GG Allin are exactly the same! My
mistake! Thanks for the clarvoyant evidence, but stop trying to act like you
are hardcore when you know absolutely nothing about GWAR. I mean, come on, you
limit them to simply "shooting pseudo cum-jizz." I'd bet that you have,
although seeing many "gwar vids," never actually listened to their music or
payed any attention to what they are all about. In fact, I bet you pronounce
the name Gee War. Oh well, I guess the likes of you who steal information from
Misfits Central and act like they are Mr. Knowledge when someone asks a
question are _real_ fans. Sorry for having an opinion that is different than
yours, I guess it scares you.

Pretty much. George took 'bad' like, cool, & the others took it the way it
was supposed to be meant for the show. I never realized George Thorogood
was such a goodie-goodie. Ha ha ha.

My top 3? I'd take bad as in ego/antics/over-the-the top personality that
every one in the entire world has probably heard of. My number one would be
considered a real pussy by most people, but at the same time he *thought* he
was a bad ass, or even *knew* he was a badass, so he was...

1.) Axl Rose
2.) Glenn Danzig
3.) Jerry Lee Lewis

No but by your reckoning all current artists owe nothing to the people that
came before them, which is of course ludicrous. To use your example Babe
Ruth set some pretty fucking lofty goals for baseball players and athletes
today are still trying to out-do him. Sports figures aside Do you really
think there would be a Gwar if there was no Kiss or GG Allin? Of course not.
Ask any member of Gwar and I guarantee you that they list both as
influences. If you were in a band, which obviously you are not, and your
biggest influence was Black Sabbath would you want to cover just their
songs? Of course not, you would take that influence (and a few others) and
evolve that idea into something different, something more over the top than
what came before you. It's painfully obvious to anyone that ever listened
to gwar and has seen their stage show that they were highly influenced by
Kiss, GG Allin, Alice Cooper & Iggy Pop. Do you think that they are the
first "act" to combine music, costumes and props into "performance art?" I
think that bands like Sabbath, Yes, Pink Floyd, Alice Cooper and Screamin'
Jay were doing it long beefore. Does that make Gwar bad? Does it make them
derivative? I don't think so, but when props are due goddamnit they are
due.

There you go with that Jerry Springer thing again, <WHINE> You don't know

about the Misfits in passing, no one that truly is into the band ever would

I never said it did. Honestly "cool" was a poor choice of adjective, but
I'm not about to sit with a dictionary trying to find a more politically
correct one. Personally I always liked groovy, you dig?

Take your own advice asswipe.

> Oh well, I guess the likes of you who steal information from

This hurts.. I don't need to go to Misfits Central to look up anything about
this band. As a matter of fact I helped compile that information. I know
more about the people in this band than you or anyone currently contributing
to this list, other than Ryq, and honestly he'd probably defer to me. The
only reason we pound that fucking site down your throats is that alot of
people, myself and Ryq included, worked our assses off for a long time
making sure that every single tidbit of information was correct. Ryq, Robert
Flemming and Bobby Steele worked over the course of three fucking years to
get the Guitar/Bass TAB up and correct. So yeah when a question comes up we
answer it and then point the person to the site. We are proud of it. As a
matter of fact I have a copy of Mark's original "Misfit's Book" that he
emailed me in very early 1994. It's 12 pages of text. Printed out I
believe the current "Misfit's Book" would be over 200 pages of everything
*anyone* could possibly want to know about a band that really is not quite
worthy of this much time and effort.

One more time www.misfitscentral.com

> Sorry for having an opinion that is different than

What scares me is that there is a bunch of you kids running around with
absolutely no respect for things that came before. I'm no punk as fuck litt
le asswipe, I listen to alot of different music and respect *all* music, no
matter what it is. My record collection is too fucking big, and I know more
than even I care to know, or keep straight for that matter. When I say a
band has been influenced by another band or person, I'm stating such as my
opinion, I didn't think it was neccessary to elaborate further. Only
difference is Andy, I've been around alot longer than you and my opinion is
more valid, because my eyes are not clouded by pseudo-Jizz.

Okay, -K. You are the only fan of GWAR on this newsgroup, although I bet you
hadn't even heard of them until WKE came out. I happen to like CoC, too, but
it doesn't have any of the mythology in it that GWAR fans come ot expect out of
their albums. And if you would take CoC over Scumdogs of the Universe anyday,
you are a fucking idiot. Maggots itself could destroy any song on CoC... not
to mention Slaughterama and Sick of You. You act like you are the definitive
GWAR fan, but really you are just some name-dropping fag. "Oh, I bumped into
Jizmak last weekend and he blew my cock after I got fisted by Trent Reznor

can hate me day by day all you want, that still doesn't make you better than
me. You are just a bandwagon boy, and I if you want to debate anything about
GWAR with me, IM me, AndyofGWAR. I'm waiting for you. Oh yeah, and I think
that GWAR was influenced by Devo or Slayer more than GG Allin, but that's just
from my personal readings on the band.

There are so many ignorant inconsistancies in this thread I can't touch on them
all.

Andy, I have been into Gwar since '92 when America Must Be Destroyed came out.
I have all of their shit. I'm not saying I am the ultimate Gwar fan, but I am
at least knowledgable on the subject. You knocking CoC adds to the proof of
how fucking dumb you are. There's a thing called opinion. dev/null says
without GG there wouldn't be a Gwar. I disagree. But I'm not going to make a
massive string of posts out of it on a Misfits newsgroup. In my opinion GG was
cool. I've listened to his music and seen Hated. He was cool. I don't see
how he affected Gwar, because for the most part alot of people know his name,
but don't know why they do or what he was about. I don't think his impact was
even noticable. I also think that CoC is one of Gwar's best albums. So is We
Kill Everything. They keep getting better. On top of all of this, my opinion
means nothing to any of you and your opinions mean nothing to me. So why don't
we keep our opinions to ourselves (especially about shit that has nothing to do
with The Misfits) and wait until there is some Misfits news to discuss. This
is a newsgroup, not a chatroom. If there's no Misfits news this group should
be empty. Some of you really have no idea how stupid you are.

I don't really think this is true. GWAR was created by many different minds,
but at its core is the always-hilarious and daring Dave Brockie, who has been
playing in bands since the early 80's. As far as I know, GG's main "popularity"
(if you can call it that) came about in the late 80's, long after Brockie had
played in "Death Piggy" for several years. And yes, even then, as most GWAR
fans know, the band was very theatrical. They used paper mache props, flung
food and fluids, and tried to come up with something new and shocking every
time they played - just like GWAR. GWAR came about much later, when Death Piggy
and other musicians and artists hooked up with Hunter Jackson and Chuck Varga,
who were experimenting with making foam and rubber-based costumes. The band
tried them on one night at a show, and voila, GWAR was born. GWAR is, in
essence, Death Piggy with a supporting cast, and with a more strict "story
line" behind it. As for the performers in the band, they're not extremely
relevant - every musician in GWAR has been replaced at one time or another
(sometimes multiple times, in the case of "Flattus"), with the sole exception
of Dave. In other words, Dave basically "is" the band, and he was doing what he
does long before GWAR even existed. This is all pretty much common knowledge to
anyone who has looked into GWAR's history, but I just thought it was worth
repeating here. I guess you could say it's possible that they were influenced
by GG's antics to a certain degree, but the band certainly didn't come about as
a result of GG's existence. I know that at least a few (most of whom are now
ex-) members of GWAR were "into" GG for one reason or another - mostly because
he was "punk" to the point of being ridiculous and hilarious to watch - but I
doubt that many of them ever took him very seriously, or drew much influence
from him. As for Slayer being an influence, I wore a Slayer t-shirt to the
Slavepit (I'm not trying to pull the old "I'm cool cuz I met GWAR" thing here,
but it's relevant) in 1995, and was practically laughed out of the place. The
only music I saw around there was stuff like "Man or Astro-Man" (an
instrumental surf band that incorperates stage theatrics into their act) and a
couple of Mentors albums wedged in between couch cushions. I also know that at
least one member was pretty heavily influenced by "Husker Du." It's easy to see
a so-called "metal" or "punk" band and to assume that they were influenced
solely by GG Allin, Slayer, The Ramones, and Metallica, but I really don't
those kinds of stereotypical influences played a huge role in the creation of
GWAR. They're the kind of of band that, with their 15+ members, draw their
influences from countless different sources. It's absurd to suggest that they
owe everything that they are to a single performer. It's hard for one performer
or band to somehow shape another from the ground up, when both exist and are
performing at the same time. Or in the case of Death Piggy, possibly even
-before- GG.

Anyway, that's just my two cents.. Remember, nobody really knows how or why the
bands we love came to be, so don't run around making huge assumptions about
their influences if you really don't have a clue. Who knows which bands
influenced GWAR? And who cares? They kick ass either way, so let's just be glad
they exist and forget about the past.

FWIW All I meant was that GG Allin opened the door for bands like Gwar. He
broke down the barriers of acceptability. Fuck Morrison was arrested for
exposing his snot nazi in the 60's, after GG had been around a bit police
were happy if he just sang naked and shit on the floor, his shows were
usually raided only after he started throwing his shit at people.

One thing you are wrong about.. GG Allin & the Jabbers put out their first
single in 1979 Beat, Beat, Beat (an obvious take on the Damned's Neat, Neat,
Neat) b/w Bored to death (my favorite GG tune) In 1981 they put out "You
Hate Me and I Hate You" / "Automatic" / "Assface"

GG Allin & the Scumfucs came in 1983. Followed by the infamous Murder
Junkies around 1990. GG's earliest stuff was his greatest stuff musically,
it's downright awesome.

These may seem to be distant names to you guys but they were a draw on the
scene back in the day, and nobody outside of Stiv Bators was doing the kind
of things that GG was doing onstage. No he never got widespread popularity
but people in bands on the scene saw him.

Gwar started doing the shock shit when at a Death Piggy (pre-gwar) someone
handed Dave (Oderus) a squeeze bottle of ketchup that he pretended was his dick
and he squirt it all over everyone. It just developed from there.
Honestly, I think Twizted Sister and 2 Live Crew (though I hate to say it) had
alot more of an effect on Gwar's being almost ignored by censorship advocates
and shit like that. Not to mention Ozzy, who's been putting up with that kind
of shit forever. They were fighting for freedom of speech in music when it was
really heated up. Also, you have to admit that bands like Marilyn Manson are
taking most of the heat now, leaving Gwar to go unnoticed by the Christian
Right and shit like that. GG was so obscure that I really don't feel he
accomplished anything to any more than a handful of people that are really
familiar with him. If you have ever seen Gwar out of their costumes, they are
the kind of guys that you know were locked in their rooms with D&D throughout
their teenage years, and probably still today. Something tells me they weren't
big fans of GG.

So...I jack off like a 12 yr. old who just found his dick everytime I look at
the Queen Diana. The floor under my monitor is as sticky as the "Kit-Kat
Theatre's". I massage my man-meat to your girlfriend's pics all the time. I got
a 3 time a day habit for the Queen Diana.

Alfred, your attempt to mock me was feeble, while I left you looking superbly
charred by my skilled flaming. You need a new angle or something. You're
lacking creativity and tact. Good effort though.

If you know what Dave Brockie's favorite computer game is you are a horribly
obsessed geek, and you should die. Gwar is cool, but not that cool. I don't
think Gwar ever intended on having a Backstreet Boy'esque following.

No, you didn't respond because you didn't know. FYI it's Close Combat... you
should know this, as Dave Brockie is horribly obsessed with WW2. And I didn't
think it was necessary to say the whole Boner song... but I will tell you that
the album starts out with the scratch of someone putting the record on the
player. Idiot. Give me the lyrics to cyramic butt. I bet you don't know
those, and you can't look them up on the internet, cuz it just says "whatever."
If you can tell me what they are, then yes, you can say I'm not a true GWAR
fan.
As for a backstreet-boyesque following, I would just like to say that at least
it isn't the real thing, like what Captain Misfit has.

Boner is not just a "cool" Death Piggy song, it's a great one. I, however,
prefer the circusy antics in "Showbiz." It sounds like the Men Without Hats
song "Antarctica" but is far more poetic.

<<As for Slayer being an influence, I wore a Slayer t-shirt to the
Slavepit (I'm not trying to pull the old "I'm cool cuz I met GWAR" thing here,
but it's relevant) in 1995, and was practically laughed out of the place.>>

Well, I knew I had seen it someplace... so I looked it up for you. Here's the
webpage where the interview he says it at is...

And here is the qoute:

"Generally speaking it takes a while for a band to grow on me. I didn't
even start listening to Slayer until Reign In Blood came out and they're
one of my favorite bands"-Dave Brockie aka Oderus Urungus.

Thank you, thank you.

I just figured I'd point out some of Trem's inconsistencies, since he points
out mine.

Hmmmm... how about these two qoutes?

<<There's a thing called opinion. dev/null says
without GG there wouldn't be a Gwar. I disagree.>>

And I think you've all read this one as well:

<<If you don't
have news, don't post. No one cares about anyone's opinions>>

Oh yeah, and I just thought I'd point out how thick -skulled you are:

I posted this a long time before you posted the later qoute...

<<I happen to like CoC, too, but
it doesn't have any of the mythology in it that GWAR fans come ot expect out of
their albums.>>

Then you posted this...

<<You knocking CoC adds to the proof of
how fucking dumb you are. >>

Enough said. STFU.

God, you are so fucking bored. Get a life motherfucker! If I had the time to
sift through old posts just to make a point that none of these people care
about in the first place, maybe I would. Do you realize what a loser you are?
Get a job or some friends to go outside and play with or something.
