My Brother, a good mutual friend & I have thought up some really stupid
characters over the years, I thought I'd share a couple of them today, no
special reason...

FEMUR MAN!

Femur Man is the secret, crime-fighting identity of an otherwise ordinary
citizen (btw, Femur Man was in NO WAY inspired by Bicycle Repair Man.
*cough*), whose name must be withheld to protect his secret identity. But,
when crime occurs, he runs to a telephone booth & becomes FEMUR MAN!!! When
he assumes the Femur Man form, his knees disappear, & he can barely walk,
then the crooks feel so sorry for him that they turn themselves in. Tune in
again next week...

CAPTAIN TENDONITIS!

...is a kids cartoon show host, I'm sure that most of you grew up with
similar shows when you were kids (although Mike Pierry & some of the younger
members of the group maybe didn't have these local cartoon shows...), in
Portland it was a guy named Ramblin' Rod (to this day I have a hard time
thinking of him by his regular name, Rod Anders), the most famous would be
Krusty the Klown on the Simpsons, the most famous *real* one would be Bozo
in Chicago, but I'll bet just about every city had one of these guys.
Captain Tendonitis would be seated at the beginning of the show, with his
"CT" emblazoned on his uniform similar to Superman's "S". The show would
begin...

<intro>

(camera fades in to Captain Tendonitis, sitting in a big, cushy chair)

CT: "Hi, Boys & Girls!"

KIDS IN AUDIENCE: "HI, CAPTAIN TENDONITIS!"

(while kids respond, CT starts to wave)

CT: "OWWW!!!" <grabs shoulder, lowers arm> " Boy!! That really really hurts,
Boys & Girls!! Let's watch a cartoon!!!"

KIDS: "YAY!!!"

Hehe - you is funny, Smeenus! I remember some kids show hosts:
Uncle Al on a cincy station when I was very young.. I remember dancing
the hokey-pokey along at home.
Dr. Creep played horror movies later on. I remember The Cool Ghoul also,
not sure if he was local or not.

Then there was Happy the Hobo on Channel 55 in Ft Wayne. I don't know if
he's still going... We always used to call him Happy the Homo because
the show was pretty lame. Then they added other characters. First was
Froggie (guess what he was?). Then there was this fox. I don't remember
his name.

A look at tvguide.com tells me that Happy's Place has shuffled off this
mortal coil.

Alas poor Hobo. I knew him, Horatio.

Then Fear and Bruce finally succumbed to the ways of Harold, and each gave
just a little bit of his soul away. What a couple of dumbshits.

I once came up with this character called Hagrinas Mivali. Some people
thought it was funny, at least in the beginning.

We had Dwayne and Floppy. Floppy was a basset hound puppet and Dwayne was
the guy with his hand up Floppy's ass. Dwayne died years ago and now Floppy
is in the Iowa Historical Musuem. Every kid in Des Moines was on that show
at one time or another, including me.

On a charactor note - there was a brief stint on MadTV (I think) of
"Encouragement Man" He would swoop in when someone was filled with
self-doubt and say "It's OK -Keep your chin uuupppp...."

I've always thought there was a place in this world for Jello Man - bullets
would bounce off him and he could mold himself into any shape to blend into
his environment to become invisible. He could squeeze through the smallest
of spaces and nothing could stop him. Maybe we could even fill him with
carrots or bananas!! He'd be delicious and there would always be room for
him.

Jello Man's Cryptonite would probably be excessive heat, I imagine.

Wow. I guess that means Jello Man's arch-nemesis would be the evil
dominatress, Acetylena.

Dude, I'm so jealous! I was supposed to be on the show, but I woke up
that morning, and barfed all over. Stage fright I suppose. Or the
mescaline. Wheee!

Hmm, doesn't ring a bell. I found a website that mentions him:
http://www.larrysmithpuppets.com/comedyhour.html
And I remember Hattie the Witch, etc. It says 1962,
but doesn't mention how long he was on. If it was only that
year, I wouldn't remember. I was born in Nov. '60
