Funny, I thought it was "Rosa Maria," but I'm not positive...I'll look it up.
"Rosa Maria" is an old Tejano cumbia...does that help? If you can describe the
song some more, that will help us...lyrics get changed a lot in Mexican
music...one performer might add and subtract lyrics...for example, I've heard
many, many versions of "La Bamba," all with different lyrics.

Flaco Jimenez, Jr. does a great version of "Rosa Maria."

If I recall correctly, the theme song for telenovella "Maria Isabel" was a
song by Alejandro Fernandez from his most recent album, "Me Estoy Enamorado,"
but I don't have the CD handy and can't remember the title.

I don't mean to act like a know-it-all, but this really does look more like
"Rosa Maria" to me.

When I was in Cuba, the musicians at the local hotel played it a lot. I
asked in a gift shop in another hotel for the song, and she said she thought
it was spanish. I suppose it is a traditional song and there are probably
covers of it.

My Espanish isn't the best, but I think the Chorus of the song goes
something like this.:

Now that you mention it, I think it might be called "Marbela" or something
like that.

This song's name IS Maria Isabel, I should know, it is my sister's name and we
used to sing it to her, the song is old (not less than 25 years old) and it is
more of the tropical genre (Ojo, Nopalito! It has nothing to do with Maria
Isabel NOVELA's theme song "Si tu supieras" or with Rosa Maria).
I could not be sure it is Mexican - it is possible that it might be Cuban- ,
and I could not tell you who recorded it.

Thanks for the post. Yeah, it might be a Cuban song as that's where I heard
it and I don't think I had ever heard it before. Also, I had a Spanish
teacher from Mexico who played guitar, and we sang lots of Mexican songs.
If Maria Isabel was a Spanish song, I think she would have played it. It
was just that the Senora in the hotel said that she thought it was Mexican.
Strange, when you go to places like that, the only CD's you can find are of
contemporary artists trying to be like modern singers. You can't find a
good traditional CD with songs like Guantanamera or Maria Isabel. Cuba is a
great place. Can't wait to go back.

While you might hate the rendition, it was recorded about five or six years ago
by Banda Vallarta Show (Ezequiel Peña), done as a cumbia. At least all the
words are understandable, one way to get the rest of the lyrics.

I hate to be picky, but Maria Isabel is a Spanish song because it is sung in
Spanish the language, although it might be Mexican, Cuban, Guatemalan, who
knows... When we the spanish speaking people refer to the nationality of a
person or song we do not say "it is English" only because it is in english, we
will specify which Country it might be from.

Agree with you, I have some Cuban friends and all they can say is that it is
beautiful. I have gone to several of their web pages and cannot stop but be
envious of the people that can afford to go.

Ileana, I see your point in is it a spanish language song or is it a Cuban
song? And I don't know where you live, but Cuba is actually one of the
cheapest destinations from Europe. Under Socialism, wages are supressed, so
it's pretty cheap, unfortunately it's at the expense of other people's
misery.

wow this post is from 1998? i just heard the song today and i'm glad you made the inquiry to help me find the song. i heard a fast paced cumbia version on the radio this morning, but all i can find is the los payos song which is a lot slower... i recorded the song (is there a way I can upload it for you guys to hear?) and emailed the radio station asking about it...

I don’t know the exact title to this song, buy my mom used to sing it to me all the time. “Rosa Maria se fue a la playa, se fue a la playa, se fue a vanar. Repeat. (Can’t remember the rest of the first line, then the Chorus goes something like, “bee-bee dee-pee-pee, prom-Pom-Pom, bee-bee-dee—pee-pee, prom-Pom-Pom. I have the tune in my head now. Very cute song!
