Blimey. We got in a magazine. It does raise a pertinent question though,
which is what do people want to happen to the homepage? Neither Carla or
myself read the newsgroup that much at all these days, and if I go away
for a few days I never bother trying to catch up. Many of the people
featured on the page have left, and many of the people who post these
days aren't on it. I had high hopes and aspirations for a community site
with far more than just profiles and the occasional article someone had
typed up when I started helping Carla out, but frankly I've lost all
that now, and don't see myself getting it back. It seems a shame,
because there used to be a real community spirit here, and I have made
several good friends because of amm. The chats, especially, were really
good fun, but I just don't care anymore. If anyone has any ideas, post
them. Otherwise, it may be time to shut the site down before it becomes
a sad relic of what it used to be. Let's learn from our idols and not
let that happen.

I still prefer being the director. I was watching a show on various jobs
and there is this woman in the porn industry who is paid to pick who
sleeps with each other. All she does is organize who has sex in which
scenes in the film. She was old and prolly an ex-porn star. Easy money
though.

There was a documentary on C4 the other day about this 25yr old mum from
Essex who went to Los Angeles to try and become a successful porn star...it
was quite depressing....I wasn't sure if she was a strong woman, or a weak
woman, but the documentary maker seemed to want to give the impression that
the reason that she had turned to porn was because of some unresolved issues
she had with a father who basically abandoned her and whom she barely knew.
I wonder if anyone else here saw it?
What amazes me more, are porn stars and starlets who apparently happily
married! "Have a nice day at work , dear?"....These people must be very
strong, or else very thick-skinned.

I heard about it. What kind of porn did she get into btw? Every porn
thing I've seen on TV (documentaries, not actual porn) shows the
prepping for becoming a porn star which psychologically evaluates them
(they don't decide for you though) and gives them an orientation on what
exactly happens. They are told that this is for life and and it is
permanent. They also have to 'audition' with the producer usually and
have sex on tape with him. These are just for the hardcore companies. I
am sure when you get to the seedier part, it is not as stable. Was the
documentary anti-porn in general or just showing some people with
problems turning to this sort of work? Because I am not into the
anti-porn movement and I think it would be worse for those with problems
if it was banned or censored. Kind of how prostitution is in LA compared
to prostitution in Nevada, you will see a 'life in the brothel' special
on women in Nevada and although some have problems, they are better off
than the girls in the streets that get beat up and abused by pimps and
are totally drug addicted.

Very much so! Some of them are both in the business and I guess some are
just very secure, or really messed-up. Now I think as a person I am
probably more secure with myself than most people but no way could I
handle my significant other being in porn. Maybe I am the oddity though.
I was listening to a radio show and the guest was a porn star that was
married and she was only allowed to do lesbian porn. It probably turned
him on.
Btw, I am not a porn freak! This post probably makes me look like

I saw it. I'd reply myself, but Nick Cooper over on uk.media.tv.misc already
summed up what I thought of it perfectly:
It's more the case that vulnerable and emotionally-damaged women make
for better tabloid TV. The modern reinvention of the Victorian
morality of women as saints or sinners is that "radical feminist" myth
that all sex is defined by a power dynamic of women subjugated by men.
Though watered-down for the mainstream, it is reflected in the media
cliche that _all_ women in the porn industry are being exploited. The
old morality that leads to us having a single praising term for
promiscuous men, but many and only condemnatory words to desribe
promiscuous women manifests itself as an unspoken "agreement" that no
female could possibly enjoy such a way of making a living that she
must, "have problems to do with confidence, sexuality, self image."
If she's not a whore, then she must be ill. Strange that scant
attention seems to be paid the men in front of the camera; the media
is only interesting in making victims of all of them women and demons
of the men on the other side of the lens.
The documentary was very unpleasent, and Felicity as an individually
obviously is very disturbed, but do you think any film-maker would be
interested in the telling the story of someone who wasn't, or a TV
network interesting in screening it? The film-maker in this instances
latched onto a subject that would produce the effect he wanted, which
really makes him no better than the porn-makers who similarly
exploited her.
Staff in MacDonalds get treated like shit and are paid peanuts, but
there are plenty of people working in catering whose experience of the
industry is nothing like that. Think about it, and which would make a
"better" documentary.

Good post, whoever Nick Cooper is. I know some girls who have done porn
and liked it. Some girls just liked the money but if they didn't care
about the sex bit, who cares? I know a girl who was a prostitute and
that was a different story but if it were legal I am sure things would
have been better for her.
You do get people in all walks of life that aren't happy and have issues
unsorted that go into jobs they don't want to. The way the world flows
pushes all sorts of people into the business world that would prefer to
be beauticians or mechanics but it doesn't have the same status or
please their parents. I have watched shows like Real Sex and G-String
Divas (I am not a faithful watcher or anything and I swear I am not a
porn freak) and some people genuinely seem happy about their choice.
Also there are many other really intelligent women that got into porn if
you watch certain documentaries and that Annabelle Chung chick (dunno
her actual name) had a documentary about her and how she was a feminist
or into women studies actually.
They do talk about how radical feminism and religious fundamentals have
'hopped in bed' together in the US to try and put down porn. Some well
known radical feminists here named Dworkin and Mackinnon (I am sure some
people know who they are) tried to get porn banned in the name of
women's civil rights. That didn't work in the US so they went to Canada
and managed to somehow ban their own writings.
I am a member (not a dues paying but on their lists and will contribute
to their cause if I can) of an individualist feminist group. It is more
along the lines of Wendy McElroy and Camille Paglia. They aren't quite
as popular as Steinem and her ilk, but they do exist.

This girl had to fill in forms saying what she would and wouldn't do.
Despite this, her agent (a Brit) took her to shootings (of stuff she said
she wouldn't do) to 'educate' her, and then basically tried to persuade her
to do the things she said she wouldn't do. In one instance she was taken to
some bloke (the asphyxiation bloke, amongst other things) to meet him, and
she basically got involved in a shoot...things got very unpleasant and the
film crew (Channel 4) actually intervened....
