The loading process however *will* vary depending on the format.
Format 0 is much closer to the format used internally by playback engines, all
events are time-ordered. So a simple MIDI file player with no user
interaction would be very fast with format-0 (i.e. old Yamaha MDF players).
On the other hand, we usually expect to see data organized by tracks or at
least by MIDI channels. So in many instances, a format-0 file will actually be
slower to load because it must be split-by-channel.
Format-1 events are already organized as tracks so much closer to what you
expect to see on screen.

All in all, processor power required at playback time does not vary much for
either format; a slight bit more for format 1 but definitely not worth the
trouble of format 0.
For example, the ShowPlay MIDI player uses an internal format that
requires the same processing power for either format; only at load time is
there any (little) difference.
