I've spent the rest of my " music " time practicing keyboard. Scales and
chords, chords and scales, over and over.
That and I did sequence two new tunes this week. That's become almost
childsplay since I dumped the midi guitar rig and just buckled down on
keys. Midi is a piano / keyboard format ......
Oh, I do have one project that's sort of interesting to look into.
Wondering if it's possible to use a bluetooth phone earpiece as a mic at
a gig ? I don't play all that loud, so feedback really shouldn't be an
issue. Phone thing will link to my laptop, and should ( hope hope )
show up as an audio device. If it does, I can use that as a mic input in
Mainstage.
The goal would be to dump my real mic and stand for lo-fi gigs. Less to
carry.

Everything is so much easier. Guitar is an easy instrument to play but
a hard instrument to play well. And I mean Segovia. The arranger
keyboard is the best route for the "one man band". People really
accept a keyboard player over a guitar man and a drum machine.
Let us know how the blue tooth works out. It IS eq'd for voice.

To ramble a bit ...
I did head off over the weekend to a store to check some of these
bluetooth headsets out, but the place was packed, so all I did was look.
I haven't given up on the idea yet.
It probably is true ( certainly is ) that these would be eq'd for a
speaking voice freq range. That might be a dealbreaker. No biggie, I'll
use it when I Skype if it's not usable at gigs. A possible gain is that
some of these units use fairly sophisticated chips that suppress
background noise. I saw a bit about that in a chip/opamp manual a while
back. There is real technology going into cell phones :-)

as far as the keyboard at jobs, that's something I'm exploring. It does
give me a place to set stuff, and an excuse to sit down ... ha.
Seriously, getting serious about keys is paying off already in maybe
ways. For one, I've pretty much stopped using any net midi's as the
start point for new ( old ) tunes. It's just WAY easier to get duo chick
over, let her sing while I play a guitar rhythm, then go back and add
all the parts that would be midi from the keys. That's a BIG deal for
guitar players who are pretty much trapped with what they can find, midi
wise.
Another plus from this is I'm brushing up my sight reading again.
Digging out all the old music books in the basement. Many years ago I
had to read, part of my earlier life as a studio guy, but I haven't kept
up, or needed that skill in decades. It's coming back rather fast tho,
so that's good. I get the guitar, plug it into my POD and some earbuds,
and read thru the old books in the evening while wife is watching tv.
Lets me unannoyingly stay out in the room with her, and still be doing
something useful ( as opposed to actually watching an umpteenth rerun of
the Closer ).
I've also learned that there is lots of sheet music available right here
on usenet. Funny thing there. I've almost maxed out my download limit
for this month already. Need to back off a bit or upgrade my plan. I'll
back off and look at what I have until the next billing cycle.
Another project ..... A rotating mount for my bigger LCD. It would work
much better as a music display if it were rotated 90 degrees. Got that
two monitor thing going. Music on the external, and DRUDGE on the
laptops screen. Multitasking ... ho ho ho.

something about an iPhone app that did guitar sounds..... a stripped
down NI Guitar rig, iirc.
Seriously, I was looking at the pricey headset mics in SweetWater's
catalogue today. Decent seems to start about $350. That's much more like
what I'd eventually end up using. I certainly will get there, one way or
another. Big old mic stands and me are destined to become strangers.
