Any thoughts? I want to make sure it is what they say it is before I buy.

Well it sounds like the same advancement that happened
with the computer mouse. From mouseballs to optical sensors
ie) no moving parts, and therefore, no wear and tear.

I use an optical mouse and it's 10 times better than a normal mouse.

you'll probably find that with a optical fader, it's also a lot nicer
to use, and if there are no moving parts, never needs replacing!

there's a nice big pic of that new stanton mixer at www.htfr.co.uk

*Sheepish look*

we obviously weren't talking about the same model of mixer.
I'm getting confused with the new mixer they are bringing out
called the world's first "valve" mixer

Any one care to explain that?

check out the valve mixer at the very bottom of the mixers page

I just bought the Stanton SK2 mixer. The SK2 has a crossfader identical to
that in the Vestax PMC-05. It's manufactured by Alps of Japan. There is a
new crossfader designed by DJ Focus called the Focus Fader which is
optical, has no adjustable curve, and has a sharp fader curve (off-on, no
gradual rise). There were two generations of the SK2:
THe first generation has a problem with an echo in the headphones, and
didn't have rubber feet to keep it from sliding on a hard surface. The
first generation are also not compatible with the Focus Fader. The second
generation SK2s have rubber feet, no echo in the headphones, and they are
focus fader compatible. Almost every SK2 sold by dealers now are the
second generation. Stanton is also now selling the SK2-F which includes
the standard Alps crossfader and the Focus Fader, and it also has a blue
faceplate instead of the standard silver as on the SK2.

For more info, check out the DJ WORKSHOP message board on
www.stantonmagnetics.com.

Kick ass mixer at a kick ass price.
