In a statement issued yesterday (March 24) Machine Head
officially announced what has been widely reported on the
net: Logan Mader has left Machine Head. Mader, who had
been with the band since it's inception in Oakland CA in 1993,
has chosen to pursue other projects. Their statement reads:
"After 10 months of touring, Machine Head had returned
home to begin work on the new record. After distancing
himself over the last half of the tour, various problems
peaked and during the first week of March 1998, Logan Mader
quit Machine Head. Reasons: Wanting the ability to do
outside musical projects for extra income, something that
some bands allow but is not part of Machine Head's
philosophy."
"Machine Head is a full-time commitment. The majority of the
income generated is turned around and reinvested into the
maintenance of running the band. Not a path chosen by all
bands, however it is how Machine Head is always worked. As
everyone 'should' know, the path to success isn't always
paved with quick money and to get there takes work,
dedication and pride. The depth of this work ethic has been
hard on us all, but we deeply believe in what Machine Head
is doing and in the people who have supported us -
unfortunately Logan didn't."
"The fact that Logan quit the band has left us devastated. We
honestly feel betrayed and are deeply disappointed. We
wanted him to stay but it was not to be. Machine Head will
continue to create new material and are preparing to audition
guitarists. Machine Head's focus is clearer than ever. As you
know, we have always faced our problems head on and
we're not about to stop now. We would like to thank you for
your continued support."
Stay strong.

There are further unconfirmed reports that the "outside
musical projects" mentioned in the press statement refer to
an offer made by Soulfly for Logan to join them for their
upcoming world tour after studio guitarist Lucio Maia was
unable to commit. More news soon.
(March 25th 1998)
Max Cavalera has confirmed that
former Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader will be joining
Soulfly for their upcoming world tour which starts in May.
Max maintains Logan was approached only after his split
from Machine Head had become public knowledge.
(No wonder Machine Head are p*ssed off with Logan eh?)
(March 31st 1998)
First Sepultura, now Machine Head.
