Don't think so... different melody entirely. At least the version by the
Edwin Hawkins Singers (hit around 1969-1970) is different.
Ray Crenshaw in SC (USA)
"Oh Happy Day" is a bit similar to the "Doo lang doo lang lang" or "hare rama"
background vocals of those two songs, but I would say the two songs are more
similar to each other than they are to "Oh Happy Day"
I am curious as to the actual age of the song however. One posting attributes
the copyright at least to Hawkins in 1969, but I have seen the same song
credited to others. Does Sesac keep track of it?

It is quite usual to copyright "versions" of a song, even those in the
public domain. I assume (although I may be wrong) that OHD is a trad.
gospel song or spiritual. Copyrighting pd songs is quite common; Bob
Dylan copyrighted many of his songs with trad. pedigree; Charlie Rich
copyrighted "I Dream of Jeannie" which would have suprised Stephen
Foster had he still been alive! What you're actually copyrighting is
the arrangement and the few new words added to the song.
