This is a song i usually associate with Kay Kyser. I was
able to transcribe a version from an mp3 i downloaded. If i
can find my album, there's a GREAT version by Bing Crosby
and Rosemary Clooney on their 1958 album "Fancy Meeting You
Here" - an album that is just chock full of in-jokes. But
anyhoo... it's written by one of my faves Frank Loesser.

Kay Kyser
On A Slow Boat To China (Loesser)
(Male voice:)
There is no verse to this song
Cause I don't want to wait a moment too long
To say that:
I’d love to get you
On a slow boat to China
All to myself alone
Get you and keep you
In my arms evermore
Leave all your lovers
Weeping on a faraway shore
Out on the briny with that moon big and shiny
Melting your heart of stone
Honey, I’d love to get you on a slow boat to China
All to myself alone
(Female:)
I’d love to get you
On a slow boat to China
All to myself alone
A ---? in the rudder
Drifting and dreaming
Throw the compass over the rail
Out on the ocean
Far from all the commotion
Melting your heart of stone
I’d love to get you on a slow boat to China
All to myself, there's nobody else,
All to myself alone.

I have Rosemary Clooney solo on her RCA 78 the best ever of that song

I don't have the words though

I'd like to get you
on a slow boat to china
all by myself, alone.

"Hid in the reeds are eyes that peek,
voices I don't understand.
Flamingos fly endlessly,
To the silent sky"

There is also a version of "On a Slow Boat to China" on Jimmy Buffett's 1981
"Somewhere Over China" album.

Btw, I believe the lyric with the question mark should be

A twist in the rudder

In the Buffett version, that area goes like:

A twist in the rudder, and a rip in the sail,
Drifting and Dreaming,
Honey throw the compass over the rail.

This is an old standard that's been recorded by tons of singers male and
female. If you heard a female it could be Ella Fitzgerald or Rosemary
Clooney.
The version that stands out for me is by
Kay Starr from her "Movin'" LP, Capitol Records early 1960's.

"On A Slow Boat to China"

I'd love to get you
On a slow boat to China

All to myself, all alone.

Get you and keep you

In my arms evermore.
Leave all your lovers weeping
On the far away shore.

Out on the briny
with a moon so big and shiny
Melting your heart
Made of stone.
Well I'd love to get you

On a slow boat to China

All to myself, alone.
