The booklet to my "Best of La Bamba" suggests a translation of Ritchie
Valens' version as
(first verse)
To dance La Bamba requires a little grace
A little grace for me and you
And higher and higher, I'll be yours
(second verse)
I'm not a sailor, I'm a captain
Bamba bamba bamba.
The booklet also suggests if you listen closely to Ritchie Valens'
version, you can hear Ritchie's brother whispering him the words. This
strikes me as a bit unlikely that Richie couldn't remember or was too
nervous to sing ten lines. However at 1.30 into the song, you clearly do
hear someone in the background start the verse.

The Movie suggests that RV didn't speak spanish ;-)
Anyway, in another version, there's a third verse:

I'll give it a shot. (note: the difference between Spanish dialects is far
greater than that between English dialects, like British and American, for
example. My native language is Chilean Spanish, which may be slightly
different from the original Mexican Spanish this song was written in.)
(Another note: this song is a traditional Mexican wedding song[i think],
which goes back many many years. There are hundreds of versions of this
song, sort of the Louie Louie of Mexico, the best known to Yankee ears may
be Trini Lopez's. This version by Ritchie Valens contains the fewest number
of verses of any version I've ever heard, most have around 5 or 6 verses.)

NOTE: "bamba" in most Mexican dialects means fluke, lucky
shot or throw. "Bamba" in this song is a shortened
form of "bambalear" (from "bambolear"), meaning to
swing or sway (which describes the accompanying
dance quite accurately). Several words in this song
are contractions and I don't note it -- I just
translate as if the full word were there.
