ON BROADWAY
by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weill
(and very likely someone else whose name I do not remember.)

They say the neon lights are bright on Broadway.

They say there's always magic in the air.
But when you're walking down that street,
And you ain't had enough to eat,
The glitter rubs right off
And you're nowhere.

They say the chick are somthing else on Broadway.
But lokking at them just gives me the blues.
'Cause how ya gonna make some time,
When all you've got is one thin dime?
And one thin dime won't even shine your shoes?

They say that I won't last too long on Broadway.
I'll catch the Greyhound bus for home, they all say.
But they're dead wrong, I know they are,
'Cause I can play this here guitar!
And I won't quit 'til I'm a star,
On Broadway.

Shawn, I don't have all the lyrics, but the artist was George Benson, and
you can probably find the lyrics by doing a search on his name.

Interesting, these lyrics are quoted by Peter Gabriel on "The Lamb Lies
Down On Broadway" from the eponymous Genesis album of 1974.
