Don't be afraid
Oh my love
I'll be watching you from above
And I'd give all the world tonite
To be with you
Cause I'm on your side
And I still care
I may have died but I've gone nowhere
Just think of me
And I'll be there...
I think the artist might have been Lionel Richie, but that is only a
guess...
Any information at all would be helpful.
Thanks
Hiya Carla,
Michael Jackson did a remake of it in the early 70's, and made the
charts with it. Another group did it in the 60's, but I'm drawing a blank
on just who it was. I'm gonna check into it, anyhow, and if no one else
has the answer, I'll get it to you as soon as I dig it out.
Best to ya!
Bill

This song was done by the escape club in the mid/late 80's but it could
have been a cover. It is called "I'll be there" I have the album, but
won't have access to it until this weekend. I'm believe the lyrics are
in the liner notes. I'll post the lyrics on Monday along with whether
their version is a cover or originally theirs.

This sounds like another candidate for the list of completely different
songs with the same title (like "Fire" - Pointer Sisters, Arthur Brown, Jimi
Hendrix, Ohio Players, etc.). There's the Michael Jackson "I'll Be There" from
the 70s, later covered by Mariah Carey. Then there's the tune discussed above.
I also remember a third: Gerry and the Pacemakers (part of the 1964
british invasion in the wake of the Beatles) had a hit single called I'll Be
There, different song. Let me test my memory on the bridge and last verse:
There, whenever you need to know
That there is someone who cares.
So if your new love, isn't a true love,
Just call my name and I'll be there.
I remember this song because there's a piano solo in the middle. Back then
groups didn't have real acoustic pianos, because they're too hard to carry
around and you couldn't hear them (believe me, I tried). They had organs
instead.
Another batch of useless trivia .......
