I remember it...I don't know who did it, but I DO remember that some
muppets did their own little version of it on Sesame Street many MANY
MANY years ago when I was at the Sesame Street watching age (approx 25
years ago? yikes)...
good description of the lyrics tho...someone else out there will know
what you mean!!

I remember this as being from Sesame Street or The Muppet Show, sung by
Mahna Mahna and the Snowths, I think! In the middle of the song, Mahna
Mahna went off on this scatlike ad lib, "Mah mahma nam mahna mah
manamwomp manamwomp mah wompwomp mah momo mahna momo mah mo, etc.",
dancing wildly. He finally stopped as he realized the Snowths were
simply staring at him. He sheepishly uttered, "Mahna Mahna???", and
they resumed the song. It was hilarious.

Apparantly the original was written and performed by Piero Umiliani
(and even hit #55!) for the movie 'Sweden, Heaven and Hell'.

i love that song! it's on my "muppets hits" album. but, sorry, they don't
list whoever else may have sung/wrote it...

but it is a great song

The original version was done by Piero Umiliani on the soundtrack to the 1969
movie "Sweden, Heaven And Hell." It is included on the recent CD compilation
_Hard to Find Pop Instrumentals_ (Eric 11508-2)

only about 7 :-)
Not sure of the spelling but it WAS Mnah mnah (Lullaby of Birdland) and
the original was by The Muppets but there was, if you can believe, a
cover version in the UK at the same time.
