Can only find skimpy info on Google that she did the song, and it's not
listed on any discography that I can find.
Does anyone know when Joplin made that recording or what disc it might
be on?
I know this isn't a lyric question, but hope someone might help me out
with this.

Is this a compilation album???
Good question, Mark. I am hoping Tom or someone will have some more info
on this album, as I have hunted high and low on the Internet and can't
find it anywhere. Any leads much appreciated.
Thank you, Tom, for the previous post :)
TIA.

Wait a sec, though...those last two tracks weren't even written yet at
the time Janis died. Something seems amiss there.

Thanks, Tom. Hmmm...the title on that is "I Can't Stand *De* Rain" and I
also found a couple of other "albums" on Gracenote that list the song on
them in a sort of complilation, including another one with a spelling
error in the title! So I'm wondering if those are mp3 collections that
someone has put together.
I also don't see where it says that the track length is 2'56".
Anway, one step closer (maybe) to solving the mystery :)
Thanks again.
See the 4th one down.

That's kinda what I was hinting at... ;-)

I took a look at that link and there is no publisher info on it that I
could see (e.g., Columbia). I also found a few other "CDs" that have the
tune on it, another one spelled wrong, but also with no info about who
published or released it. One of them said the files are mp3s. Also,
another poster to this group pointed out that a couple of the tunes
weren't written till after Janis's death.
So I went to the official Janis Joplin web
site(http://www.officialjanis.com/) and asked about it. That site is
supposedly operated by Janis's family and estate. Someone got back to me
and said that Janis _never_ recorded I Can't Stand the Rain and that it
was a hoax. I have checked out every other cover I can find and none of
them are the one I have. So there the story ends...for now!
I sure wish someone could tell me who it is on the mp3 that does such a
great job of sounding like Janis :)
Thanks everyone. An unsolved mystery for now.

There are several versions...
Ann Peebles (composer)
Graham Central Station
Tina Turner
Missy Elliott
La Bouche
The Commitments w/Angeline Ball
Eruption w/Precious Wilson
(I'm of the opinion that JJ never recorded this tune)
I haven't heard them all but, Tina Turner's sounds somewhat like a JJ
vocal.

BINGO! Thank you, Loudon.
For whatever reason, I checked out every cover but the Commitments
version by Angeline Ball - that's it! A great knock-off of Janis but
it's not Janis. They really manage to re-create that late 60s R&B feel.
Thanks for helping me resolve this! I'm disappointed that I got suckered
but pleased to know who the heck it was/is.
