Does anyone have the lyrics to Gloria? I know Van Morrison sang the
song. I am not sure who wrote it. I have been told the Shadows of the
Knight from Chicago first sang it and possibly wrote it.

I believe the name of the group was "The Shadows of Knight".
Their release was the first I heard. I think it was '66-'67. I don't
know who wrote it. Here is a copy I pulled from here a while ago.

Gloria (Van Morrison)
------

Like to tell you 'bout my baby
You know she comes round
Just 'bout five feet four
From her head to the ground
Well she comes around here
Just about midnight
She makes me feel so good Lord
Makes me feel alright.

Her name is G-L-O-R-I-A
Gloria, Gloria, Gloria...etc.

Yeah, she comes around here
Just about midnight
Makes me feel so good Lord
Makes me feel alright
Walkin' down my street
Comes up to my house
She knocks upon my door
Makes me feel alright.

Her name is G-L-O-R-I-A
Gloria, Gloria, Gloria...etc.

I don't have the lyrics, but I CAN tell you that it was written by Van
Morrison back in the days when he was a member of a British band called
Them. That band first recorded it in (I believe) 1965 as a single. It
was the B-side, with Baby Please Don't Go (by Mississippi bluesman Big
Joe Williams) on the A-Side.

Morrison most recently did a version of it with John Lee Hooker - it's
pretty decent, although unwittingly funny in places because Hooker makes
several speeling mistakes (so to speak) in the chorus when spelling out
G-L-O-R-I-A

Van Morrison write it, i believe, when he was fronting for Shadows of
Knight - which I thought was english/irish. Some lyrics are:

She comes around here about midnight
she makes me feel so good,
she makes me feel alright,
and her name is G-L-O-R-I-A, Gloria, etc.

she comes up to my house
knocks upon my door, etc.

hope this helps some!

Shadows of Knight version came out in 66. The first late '64 version
was by Van Morrison's original group "Them" with Van singing lead. Ray

Jimi Hendrix did the same thing:

Small correction: Van was fronting a group called Them. Shadows of Night
also had a hit with it at about the same time, but they were american
