Thanks,

Oh well, here is the requested lyrics. By the way, if you use
altavista.com or hotbot as a search engine you can just put the title of
the song, in quotes, in the searvh box and you'll have a very good
chance of finding the lyrics you want! That's how I came by these.
Enjoy,

GOOBER PEAS
by A. Pindar
Sittin' by the roadside on a summer's day,
Chattin' with my messmates, passing time away,
Lying in the shadows, underneath the trees --
Goodness, how delicious, eating goober peas!
CHORUS:Peas! Peas! Peas! Peas! Eating goober peas!
Goodness, how delicious, eating goober peas!
When a horseman passes, the soldiers have a rule
To cry out at their loudest "Mister, here's your mule!"
But still another pleasure enchantinger than these
Is wearing out your grinders, eating goober peas!
CHORUS
Just before the battle, the General hears a row;
He says "The Yanks are coming, I hear their rifles now"!
He turns around in wonder, and what do you think he sees?
The Georgia Militia, eating goober peas!
CHORUS
I think my song had lasted almost long enough!
The subject's interesting, but rhymes are mighty rough!
I wish this war was over, when free from rags and fleas,
We'd kiss our wives and sweethearts and goble goober peas!
CHORUS

Songs of the Confederacy
>Does anyone know of a site or a link that would give me the lyrics to a song
>called "Goober Peas"? It's an old War War II army song that I remember
>singing in elementary school and I need the lyrics.
Here's how Burl Ives sings it on the MCA compact disc "A Little Bitty Tear"
(MCBBD 20280) which you should be able to find at your favourite CD
retailer.
"Goober peas" is slang for peanuts. It's derived from "Nguba", the Congo
word for peanut. The song originated in the U.S. Civil War when peanuts were
used as food rations for the confederate troops.
