Weird Scenes
While doing a search for a Fleetwood song for someone who emailed my a
req, I came across this song posted. I began reading it over, then
went searching everywhere for it, it was all the same version. I was
kind of surprised that they are all wrong. I just took it for granted
the lyrics were out there posted somewhere, couldn't believe they are
all the same wrong version. I know this album's worn out and old, but
this is one of the few songs that can actually bring tears to my eyes
still. So I must post it, hopefully it will be seen and copied over
some of the pages I viewed.

Oh well, ignore that post, I just started a flame war on some
Fleetwood Mac msg board over that, because the words are on the CD
differently and there's no convincing them that she could have
possibly released a bogus, less berating version for her Ex there.
Should know better than to stray into fan specific sites.

I don't know what was "wrong" about the posted lyrics you saw, but the
lyrics below are not the same as the ones on the lyrics sheet that came
with the Rumours album.

You should be aware that lyrics on this vary, as Stevie Nicks performs
them differently (as she does many FM and solo songs) with different
performances. But as for accuracy, the lyrics below are accurate
according to my "Fleetwood Mac Deluxe Anthology" songbook, and have
been broken into lines in accordance with the music. I'm not
including any of the vamp lines at the end, since they usually have
the greatest variance between performances, and aren't generally
included in published lyrics of the song.

Yes, yes, I know, I am an idiot. Don't ask me what the hell I was
thinking or doing, see, I don't have the album only the tape and they
don't come with lyrics. Had I bothered I would have called a friend and
asked. When I did, I showed him these lyrics and he admitted that it
"sounds" like what she says, but he has the CD and said it's clearer
than my tape. I did badly on this one and am sticking to more blues and
people I do better with, please excuse.

Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. You gave it a try, that's the main thing.
Better to listen to the recording and make an effort at transcribing it than
to blindly accept lyrics found on the web without listening to the
recording. Unfortunately, a lot of the lyrics available on the web don't
match what was sung on the recording. I, for one, appreciate the efforts of
anyone who's willing to take the time to listen to a recording and create a
more complete and more accurate transcription to share with the rest of us.
The "Rumours" LP (vinyl) came with an insert containing the lyrics to all of
the songs on the album. Here's what it has for "Gold Dust Woman". It may not
be exactly what was sung on the record but, if you listen to the tape again,
you should be able to make an accurate transcription.
