Can anyone out there tell me if Melanie is the original singer of "I Got A
Brand New Pair of Roller Skates" (I think that's what it's called). And if
anyone has the lyrics, I'd really appreciate it!! Some of the lyrics are: I
drove my bicylce passed your window last night...

on that song.

Dear Jen,
Melanie (Safka) is indeed the original artist on
"Brand New Key". It was a million seller and #1 hit for her late in 1971.
Ray Conniff recorded it in 1972.

Never really paid attention to the lyrics, and seeing them in print puts them in
a new light. Was this some kind of double entendre, do you think? I always
thought this was just a silly childhood reminiscence song, but now I'm
wondering...
