Hi . . . I need some songs that have the word "star" in the title
or the lyrics. So far I've already come up with:

You're a Shining Star
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
You Don't Have To Be A Star
When You Wish Upon a Star

Any other ideas? Thanks!

Time for all my ObBroadway references:
"Stars" from Les Miserables
"I'm the Greatest Star" from Funny Girl
"Hey There" from The Pajama Game ("you with the stars in your eyes")
"Wunderbar" from Kiss Me, Kate ("there's our favorite star above")
"Star of the Night" from Gifts of the Magi
"Joanna "from Sweeney Todd (but, you know, in the company of Twinkle Twinkle
et. al., you might wanna reconsider this one)
"Everything's Comin' Up Roses" from Gypsy
and I could go on...and on...

Also, from another thread:
"Seven Bridges Road" by the Eagles

And:
"Starlight, Starbright" by the Chenille Sisters
"Underneath the Stars" by Mariah Carey (I can't believe I'm suggesting it...)
"Bella Noche" from Lady and the Tramp
and...don't kill me if I'm wrong...I think "Singin' in the Rain" has a stars
reference.

There was a really awful late 80s song called
"Waiting for a star to fall". I think the name
of the group was Boy meets Girl or something
like that.

Was "Stars on 45" something by Weird Al Yankovic,
that came out in the early 1980s? If I've got the title right, it was a
medley of heavy metal anthems and new wave stuff set to a polka beat,
e.g. Smoke on the Water, Every Step You Take, Are We Not Men We Are Devo,
and Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe", (and more!), and it was hilarious.

Also, the first word of "Dream a Little Dream of Me," an old song from
perhaps the 1940s which was re-released by the Mamas and the Papas is
"stars." "Stars [can't remember] above you/ Night breezes seem to
whisper I love you/ While I'm alone and blue as can be/Dream a little
dream of me."

Did anyone mention Don McLean's "Starry Starry Night"?

"Stars" from Les Miserables, sung by Inspector Javert is a beautiful song..
although possibly not what you're looking for...

Also Blue Rodeo "Lost Together" begins "..strange and beautiful are the stars
tonight..."

"You are the Everything" by REM, off of Green. The line is:
"the stars are the greatest thing you've ever seen, and they are there
for you."

Jane Siberry has a whole bunch: "You don't Need", off of No Borders
Here ("So I ate a star from the far, back black sky...)

"Bird in the Gravel" from The Walking ("Maybe I'll lie down here and
watch the stars a while...")
probably more that I can't think of.

The Rheostatics, "Higher and Higher", from Greatest Hits ("Plug in the
stars, and they'll shine like electric")
and "Aliens" from Melville ("Meet me in the park sometime after the
night comes - you will see a star that shines like silver, smells like
gold.
Follow it through fields and hills and to the landing pad.
You will give birth to an alien.
Like me.)

Hope that helps.

Love,
Julia
