Hello,

Does anyone know where I can find the lyrics to Girl of the North
Country? I believe that it was a duet done by Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash.

Thanks for any help that you may be able to provide.

It was adapted by Dylan in 1963 from an English folk song--probably the same one
that Paul Simon used for "Scarborough Fair". Dylan did it on an early album, then
re-did it as a duet with Johnny Cash as the opener for Dylan's NASHVILLE SKYLINE
LP in late 1967. The duet was sung at a much slower tempo, rearranged the order of
the verses, and omitted one completely. These are the lyrics from the solo version
(from a fine Dylan web site at http://iris.bsd.uchicago.edu/~jrr/bob.html).

GIRL OF THE NORTH COUNTRY
(Words and Music by Bob Dylan)
1963 Warner Bros. Inc
Renewed 1991 Special Rider Music

Well, if you're travelin' in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

Well, if you go when the snowflakes storm,
When the rivers freeze and summer ends,
Please see if she's wearing a coat so warm,
To keep her from the howlin' winds.

Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
If it rolls and flows all down her breast.
Please see for me if her hair hangs long,
That's the way I remember her best.

I'm a-wonderin' if she remembers me at all.
Many times I've often prayed
In the darkness of my night,
In the brightness of my day.

So if you're travelin' in the north country fair,
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline,
Remember me to one who lives there.
She once was a true love of mine.

Keep on singing,
