A favorite in my cynical years, as sung by Judy Colllins. Want the chords?

Broken windows and empty hallways
Pale dead moon in the sky streaked with gray
Humankindness overflowing
And I think it's gonna rain today

Scarecrows dressed in the latest styles
With frozen smiles to keep love away
Humankindness........

Bridge: Lonely, lonely
Tin can at my feet
Think I'll kick it down the street
That's the way to treat a friend

Bright before us signs implore us
"Help the needy and show them the way"
Humankindness overflowing..............

And so the word went out from darr...@aol.com (Darrowby):

I loved Bette Midler's version myself :-) It's on the soundtrack for the movie,
"Beaches", if anyone's interested, and that's where the following transcription
comes from, enjoy.

Broken windows and empty hallways

A pale dead moon in the sky streaked with gray
Human kindness is overflowing

And I think it's gonna rain today

Scarecrows dressed in the latest styles

With frozen smiles to chase love away
Human kindness is overflowing

And I think it's gonna rain today

Lonely, lonely

Tin can at my feet

I think I'll kick it down the street

That's the way to treat a friend

Bright before me the signs implore me

"Help the needy and show them the way"

Human kindness is overflowing

And I think it's gonna rain today

Lonely, so lonely

Tin can at my feet

I think I'll kick it down the street

That's the way to treat a friend

Bright before me the signs implore me

"Help the needy and show them the way"

Human kindness is overflowing

And I think it's gonna rain today

Cheers,
