NASA thought enough of Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" to include a copy of it as the
only "rock" song on the Pioneer spacecraft. I guess that qualifies it as an "anthem."
If it's good enough for aliens to hear........
How about 'We will Rock you' and 'We are the Champions' by Queen.
An anthem, hmmm, tough to define.
BC Al
Ouch! That's an answer! Well done, pal.
Talking about anthems, what would you think of
"Smoke the water",Deep Purple live in Osaka (Made in Japan);
"Highway to Hell" (ACDC, Bon Scott);
"Another Brick in the Wall" Part II (Pink Floyd, Roger Waters
"Mercedes Benz" (Janis Joplin, Pearl).
>Sometimes songs are described by people as "anthems." Such as "Smells Like Teen
>Spirit", "Loser", "American Pie" among others. Anyone think of more "anthems",

I think it`s a song that sums up the feeling of a particular group of
people. Beck's "Loser" is considered a Generation X song for example.
I think an anthem is just a song that a lot of people relate too. I
think anthem is a bit of a crap term really for what, in effect, is
just a song which strikes a chord with some people.
"Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen, which certainly by now should
be an anthem. If BS already has one, I don't know about it, but I'd
venture a guess it'd be "Born to Run".
What about Bob Segar's "Old Time Rock N Roll"?
And what was Journey's anthem...?
And there's more....

To define rock anthems, we need to look up the dictionary and find the
definition for anthems. (Don't bother looking for the dictionary, cuz
it's right here:)
anthem (=E0n=B4them) noun
1. A hymn of praise or loyalty.
2. A sacred composition set to words from the Bible.
3. A modern ballad accompanied by rock music instrumentation. *
Well. There you have it. Two out of three ain't bad! Loyalty definitely
is measured by the rock anthems; just take a gander at Queen's "We Will
Rock You" and their immense impact worldwide, and you'll understand what
I mean.
{ The anthem is something for the people to remind themselves of a
{certain thing, whatever that may be. The US Anthem of the
Star-Spangled} {Banner is just like that, a hymn of praise and/or
loyalty.}
The third definitely did strike me as funny though. A modern ballad?
With rock music instrumentation???
Hmmmm. What Rock Anthem did the guy think of, when he wrote the
American Heritage Dictionary.
)Whatever. We will, we will rock you!

"We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel definitely strikes a chord with me.

Jozette, Michael, and Harley the Wonder Cat wish you
and your family a safe and happy Christmas and New Year!!!
"Any Way You Want It", perhaps?
There's more, all right. Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the
Wall", Twisted Sister's "We're Not Gonna Take It", and the Who's
"My Generation" all come to mind.

ie. "We Will Rock You" by Queen
or maybe
Thunderstruck - ACDC
Living on a prayer - Bon Jovi
Here I go again on my own - Whitesnake
Final Countdown - Europe
"New Orleans Sinking"??? I don't even know the song!!!
For a song to be qualified as a ROCK ANTHEM, among other things, it
should be quite familiar to a large mass of music lovers. Ah, maybe over
in Canada, "New Orleans Sinking" would be one... but I've never heard of
it!
OR am I wrong?
