Someone said this is by the Beatles; it was the theme song to 'Life goes
on'; a TV program in the 80's (with Corky & Becca).

Can anyone help?

Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
Lennon/McCartney

Desmond has a barrow in the marketplace
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond say to Molly, girl I like your face
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da,
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on

Desmond take a trolley to the jewelers store
Buys a twenty carat golden ring, (rin-ring)
Takes it back to Molly waiting at the door
And as he gives it to her she begins to sing (sin-sing)

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on

Yeah, In a couple of years they
have built a home sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
of Desmond and Molly Jones

Happy ever after in the market place
Desmond lets the children lend a hand
Molly stays at home and does her pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on

Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da
Life goes on, bra
La la how the life goes on
And if you want some fun
take Ob-la-di-bla-da

Yes, it is the Beatles: Oh-Bla-Di

Oh bla Di, Oh bla Da, Life goes On, Bra
La la how the life goes on (x2)

Desmond was a seller in the marketplace place
Molly was the singer in a band
Desmond said to Molly girl i like your face,
And Molly saiys this as she takes him by the hand ...

etc

(I cannot believe that one of the greatest bands of all time wrote, "Oh
Bla Di, Oh Bla da, life Goes on, Bra however?!)

I think Paul McCartney meant "Bragh" (as in "Erin Go Bragh - Paul is an
Irishman and proud of it), although if bra suits you, whatever floats your
boat.

1) Paul was born in Liverpool, not Ireland. Regardless of his lineage, that
make him English, not Irish.
2) It says "bra" on the lyric poster which accompanies the Beatles album
commonly referred to as "The White Album"

Don't remember hearing that the version used in the show's intro was done by
the cast but then I really never paid attention to it too closely. Just found
the song's use cool especially in light of Family MAtters having to drop Louie
Armstrong's What A Wonderful World after the first couple seasons.

Oh and as for the real reason I'm posting, that actress's name you're looking
for is Patti Lupone. Can't blame you for not remembering though. Life Goes On
is the only memorable non-Broadway thing I can think of her ever having been
in.

I started this thread about a week ago. I did a search on Ob-la-di and
discovered that Chris Burke (who played Corky) had a children's album out
and had this song on it.

actually the song was performed by a band named " the Marmalade"
who were the only one to release the song as a single (and to have a big
success with it), as the Beatles didn't release it (Lennon thought it was
not worthy as a Beatles song)

Ya mean that lovely rendition of said song by the cast of the TV show
"Life Goes On" never made its way onto a record or CD? :(

In a previous article, archan...@hotmail.com ("Erez Schatz") says:

O-bla-di, O bla da, most certainly *was* issued by the Beatles.

I think the key phrase in the previous post is *as a single*. It may
have been included only on one of the Beatles' albums but never released
on 45.

"Life Goes On" was a tv series in USA. It used "Obladi Oblada" as the
theme song.

There's a site devoted to the show here
http://pages.prodigy.net/lgodave/

and here's a Kellie Martin (one of the stars) site
http://www.netwiz.net/~bds4me/lgoarticles/lgoarticles.htm

you know.. if you're REALLY interested..

I came in in the middle of this thread, but has anyone noticed that Offspring's
"Get a Job" is a direct ripoff of the melody to this song.

It's "bra." It's a Jamaican phrase McCartney learned and used in this heavily Jamaican influenced song.

The song is NOT called "Life Goes On." (That's the title of the TV show.) The title of the song is "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da."
