can someone please help me: The song "Seasons In The Sun" was covered
by Westlife some months ago.
I want to know who originally sung it - and if you have the lyrics it
would be nice to post them here.
I searched on several webpages but didn't find anything.
Thanks in advance

Goodbye to you my trusted friend,
we´ve know each other since we were nine or ten.
Together we´ve climbed hills and trees,
learned the love of ABC´s,
Skinned our hearts and skinned our knees.
Goodbye my friend it´s hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
now that the spring is in the air,
pretty girls are every where,
think of me and I´ll be there.
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the hills that we
climbed were just seasons out of time.
Goodbye papa please pray for me,
I was the blacksheep of the family,
you tried to teach me right from wrong,
but to much wine and to much song
wonder how we got along.
Goodbye papa it´s hard to die
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
now that the spring is in the air,
little children everywhere,
when you see them I´ll be there.
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the wine and the
song
like the season have all gone.
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the wine and the
song
like the season have all gone.
Goodbye Michelle my little one,
you gave me love and helped me find the sun
and everytime that I was down
you would always come around and get my
feet back on the ground.
Goodbye Michelle its hard to die,
when all the birds are singing in the sky,
now that the spring is in the air,
pretty flowers everywhere
I wish we could both be there
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the stars we could
reach where just starfish on the beach.
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the stars we could
reach where just starfish on the beach.
We had joy we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the wine and the
song like the seasons have all gone.
All our lives we had fun we had seasons in the sun but the hills that
we climbed where just seasons out of time
They've also got an alternate version.
Cheers,
Baz

Adu Francoise my trusted wife,
Without you I'd have had a lonley life
You cheated lots of times but then
I forgave you in the end

Now that the spring is in the air,
With your lovers everywhere
Just remember I'll be there

> No original singer/writer was Jaques Brel in the early 60's
That was the French version of the song, in 1961.
> also covered later by the 4 seasons
I wasn't aware that the Four Seasons covered the song.
Are you sure you're not thinking of the Kingston Trio?
They recorded the English version of the song, which had
been translated by Rod McKuen, in 1964.
> and was only in the 70's that Terry Jacks recorded it
He gets credited for some of the lyrics of that version,
too, since he changed the words around to make it "lighter"
and less depressing (although still about a friend's death).
The most recent cover version was done by Westlife.
Who made it sound so depressing again! What comes around etc... ;-)
Album Title: Have A Nice Decade: disc 4
Prime Artist: Terry Jacks
Lyrics by: Rod McKuen
Written by: Jacques Brel
That info sounds credible.

SEASONS IN THE SUNG
Goodbye Michelle
don't wait for me
I'm sure glad we didn't hab
a fambily
You were weird and I was small
But your half brother was really tall
Even tho your stepmother was really small
We had joy we had fun we had seasons
in the sun
But the wine and the songs and the
feelings were all wrong
We had joy we had fun we had seasons
in the sun
But the wine that we had made our
headaches really bad
We had joy we had fun we had
starfish on the beach
but the starfish on the beach
weren't really on the beach
Note: Rod McKuen sang this song as well as many others.
Actually, he sang this better than many others. It wasn't
one of my favorites. I always like "Joanna" and "Sloopy"
and a couple of the others.
Here's Joanna.
Joanna
Joanna
sure look good to me
joanna
joanna
tiptop of the xmas tree
you fill my heart with hope
your eyes are like cineamascope
and
oh ho
joannna
and uh huh
joanna
your the top banana to me
The song was done first by Terry Jacks, he wrote and sang it.
There is a second version, with slightly different words by The Kingston Trio.
Please e-mail me if you'd like both versions.
