Always makes me laugh when the God Squad troop this one out every year -
they should have a listen to the second verse!

Anyway...

They said there'd be snow at Christmas
They said there'd be peace on earth
But instead it just kept on raining
A veil of tears for the virgin birth
I remember one Christmas morning
The winter's light and a distant choir
The peal of a bell and that Christmas tree smell
And eyes full of tinsel and fire

They sold me a dream of Christmas
They sold me a silent night
They told me a fairy story
Till I believed in the Isrealite
And I believed in Father Christmas
And I looked to the sky with excited eyes
And I woke with a yawn in that first light of dawn
And saw him through his disguise

I wish you a hopeful Christmas
I wish you a brave New Year
All anguish, pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear
They said there'd be snow at Christmas
They said there'd be peace on earth
Hallelujah, Noel, be it heaven or hell
The Christmas we get we deserve

I don't think your comment was necessary.

Ummm.

Not that it's really relevant to this newsgroup, but you *are*
aware of the part of the world where the original Christmas took
place, aren't you?

I don't believe the temperature there *ever* goes much below
about, say, 50 degrees F, December or not. Much of that story
does need to be taken on faith, but the part about sheep grazing
outdoors in December can most likely be marked "true".

Indeed. The whole Christmas fairy tale always makes me laugh..."There were
shepherds abiding in the fields" - not in the middle of December, there
weren't"!!
