Anyone ever heard of this song? I had it as a kid and wore out the 45. I
think it was by Gene Autrey? Would appreciate any help.

Did Gene Autry invent Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, or did the song exist
before his recording? His song predated the Rudolph christmas special in 1964
nad ever since with Burl Ives didnt it?

Rudolph (the story) was created in 1939 by a copywriter for Montgomery Ward
for an advertising pamphlet. Ten years later, Johnny Marks immortalized
the story in the familiar words and music. Gene Autry recorded it then.

For the record, Johnny Marks is largely identified with novelty Xmas
songs, such as Brenda Lee's "Rockin' ARound the Xmas Tree" and Chuck
Berry's "Run Rudolph, Run" (still another cash-in on Rudy's
celebrity).--
