At the end of the movie Mask (starring Cher and Eric Stolz), Cher gets
off the phone after learning that her son Rocky did not show up at
school. Fearing the worst, she slowly heads for his bedroom (and of
course, she finds him there dead).

As she walks to the bedroom, a soft acoustic song is played, ballad
style typical of the 60's. The words that I can make out sound like ..

If my words did shine
Like the cold of sunshine
And my song ...

Could you hear my voice ..

-----------------------

Does anyone know what this song is? It's very pleasant and soft and
sweet.

Thanks!

John

I barely remember the movie, but the song has to be the Grateful
Dead's "Ripple". I've never been a Dead fan, but recently bought the
Persuasions' "Might As Well", an a-capella recording of Dead covers,
and some of the songs are really pretty, with killer lyrics. The
liner notes don't give lyrics, but I'm sure there are Deadheads out
there who can give them to you.

Ripple
by The Grateful Dead

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine
And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung,
Would you hear my voice come thru the music,
Would you hold it near as it were your own?

It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken,
Perhaps they're better left unsung.
I don't know, don't really care
Let there be songs to fill the air.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

Reach out your hand if your cup be empty,
If your cup is full may it be again,
Let it be known there is a fountain,
That was not made by the hands of men.

There is a road, no simple highway,
Between the dawn and the dark of night,
And if you go no one may follow,
That path is for your steps alone.

Ripple in still water,
When there is no pebble tossed,
Nor wind to blow.

But if you fall you fall alone,
If you should stand then who's to guide you?
If I knew the way I would take you home.

La dee da da da, La da da da da, Da da da, Da da, Da da da da da
La da da da, La da da, Da da, La da da da, La da, Da da.

You know I could whistle up an old tune, babe
That your memory just might recall
And I could rustle up some reminise
'Bout the good old days and all

Thanks for the lyrics. It's a really nice tune, and having the lyrics
make it even nicer. I was hearing some of the words wrong.
