Does anyone know the complete lyrics to the old song which has the line
"Istanbul, not Constantinople" in it? Do you remember who recorded it
and about when?

I don't know if anybody else did this song, but I DO know that it's on They
Might Be Giants album FLOOD.
Here are they lyrics:

They Might Be Giants
Flood

Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
(J. Kennedy/N. Simon)
Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've got a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul
Even old New York
Was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way
So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks'
Istanbul

I heard a song with similar lyrics by the group They Might Be Giants, but I
don't know what album. It was showcased on Tiny Toons.

I had copied the full lyrics to this song replaying
the ending of a movie that used it. I think it was
a Jim Jarmucsh? movie?

Can't find all the lyrics right now but the
first verse is.

Istanbul is Constantinople.
Now its Istanbul not Constantinople.
So if you go to Constantinople,
You'll be standing in Istanbul.

I'm still working from memory on this one.

Istanbul is Constantinople.
Now its Istanbul not Constantinople.
So if you go to Constantinople,
You'll be standing in Istanbul.

Girls who live in Constantinople
Live in Istanbul not Constantinople.
So if you've a date in Constantinople,
She'll be waiting in Istanbul.

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.
Why they changed it I don't know.

That's it for my memory.

Don't forget Bette Midler doing it in the 70's. It's on her concert album,
"Live at Last".

Was it ever in a Hope and Crosby Road Picture?
