I'm trying to learn the history of the song "Somebody's Waiting For You". My
grandmother, now decease, recited it to my mother when she was a child in
the 1930's. The song and what we learn about it is considered a family
treasure. With more knowledge of the history, we might be able to conclude
where my grandmother learned it, perhaps even from my great-grandmother.
Here is what I know about the song so far...
It was copyrighted in 1906, as found on the Levy Sheet Music site (links
below). This site shows it was written by Vincent Bryan, performed by
Dorothy Drew. Additional details are shown at the links under"1906 SHEET
MUSIC" and listed under "1906 SONG DETAILS."
Others suggested the song had been performed by the performers listed below
(years not known):

IF YOU CAN HELP ANSWER ANY OF THE QUESTIONS BELOW, OR ADD ADDITIONAL INFO,
I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.
-- What artists performed the song, including those identified above, and
when was it performed?
-- When the lyrics were first written and was it by Vincent Bryan as shown
at the Levy Music Site?
-- Are there any other resources, Internet or other, that have more on the
history of this song?
-- Where can a record / recording of this be purchased?
THANKS FOR YOU HELP IN ADVANCE!!

LYRICS-- Somebody's waiting for You
In a Cool Shady Nook, by the Side of the Brook,
Two Sweet Maidens were Fishing alone,
They Talked as They Fished, and the Younger Girl Wished,
for the Sweetheart She never had known,
The other Girl said, with a Toss of Her Head,
Cheer up Dear there's no cause to be Blue,
Your Love You've not met but He'll come to You yet,
for there's somebody waiting for You.
Somewhere, somebody's waiting for You, You, You,
Somewhere, somebody's longing Who's Heart is True,
Sometime, You'll Love Somebody Who Loves You Too,
Somewhere, Somebody's waiting for You, You, You.
Then a Youth passing by, heard Her Sister's Reply,
and He Joined in Their Chat, Half in Fun,
He said It is True, Someone's waiting for You,
and I wish You Thought, I was the One,
She paused for awhile, and She said with a Smile,
I'm not sure, but you may be It's true,
But if You are Wrong, Why You won't worry long,
for there's somebody waiting for You.
Somewhere, somebody's waiting for You, You, You,
Somewhere, somebody's longing Who's Heart is True,
Sometime, You'll Love Somebody Who Loves You Too,
Somewhere, Somebody's waiting for You, You, You.
