I normally don't bother with boycotts or anything of the sort but this really
gets me mad! The ILS was an incredible service that made it possible to
enjoy music in a richer fashion. IMHO, the existence of the ILS would serve
to INCREASE the revenues of the people that shut it down. Stupid, stupid,
stupid.
So, what companies are involved and what artists are being taken along as
somewhat-innocent victims (since they'll be boycotted even though they may
have absolutely nothing to do with the HF actions)?

How long do your news threads take to come through? Seeing as we have been
talking about this for 3 days......
Does anyone like this idea? Is anyone willing to step up and save the lyrics? Or
perhaps this is already happening...?

I started doing so as soon as I found out about the shutdown. I have the
right to know what the words are on my tapes and CDs, and if they're not
included, I should have some other place where I can look them up. The ILS
was just such a site. If the industry doesn't want us to know the lyrics they
shouldn't put them iun songs. If they don't want us going elsewhere to find
them, they should put them in the tapes and CDs.
In addition, from what I have read of the copyright laws, archives made for
research purposes are acceptible. That's what the ILS was, according to their
own copyright diaclaimer. As I understand it, that made the site legal.
This is the big company going after the little guy who shouldn't be able to
defend himself and thus crumple under the pressure. I hope the ILS wins out.
If not, well, the music industry won't be getting anymore business from me.

Exactly the point I've been trying to make in several messages posted here.
Thanks for expressing it more succinctly.
It seems to be the greedy music publishers who want to make lyrics a
tightly-controlled secret that they can divulge to individuals *for a FEE*!
Songwriters don't want their lyrics to be a secret. They have a story to
tell and they work hard to create beautiful lyrics that convey that story.
It makes no sense that they'd want to prevent us from understanding their
words. Of course, they expect and deserve to be paid for their work, and
they *are* paid every time we purchase a recording of their song. But how
can we appreciate the songwriter's work if we can't understand what the
singer is singing and we don't have the lyrics? It's in the songwriter's
best interests to include the lyrics with the recording, but the music
publishers don't allow it.
