STAGGER LEE (Harold Logan & Lloyd Price) (Artist: Lloyd Price)

I was standing on the corner when I heard my bulldog bark;
He was barking at the two men who were gambling in the dark.
It was Stagger Lee and Billy, two men who gamble late,
Stagger Lee threw seven, Billy swore that he threw eight.
Stagger Lee told Billy, "I can't let you go with that.
You have won all my money and my brand new Stetson hat."
Stagger Lee went home and he pulled his forty-four, said,
"I'm going to the barroom just to pay that debt I owe."
Stagger Lee went to the barroom and he stood across the barroom door,
Said, "Now nobody move," and he pulled his forty-four.
"Stagger Lee," cried Billy, "Oh, please don't take my life.
I got three little children and a very sickly wife."
Stagger Lee shot Billy, oh, he shot that poor boy so bad,
Till the bullet came through Billy and it broke the bartender's glass.
Look out now! Go, go Stagger Lee. Go, go Stagger Lee.
Go, go Stagger Lee. Go, go Stagger Lee. Go,
Go Stagger Lee. Go, go Stagger Lee. Go, go Stagger Lee. Go, go!

Could somebody tell me who came out with the song "Stagger Lee" and
send me the lyrics to it. I have requests for this song every other
night or so. I know about 3 verses to it but I need the words to the
entire song. Any help would greatly appreciated. Please email the words
to me please.

the cave album is ok, but you should check out the older versions as well
-not as explicitly bloody perhaps, but just as raw and bone-chilling

btw, cave's fascination for bob dylan just seems to reach a climax on that
record
i'm not sure whether it's a coincidence that he chooses to record
-apart from the cover of dylans death is not the end -
both stagger lee and henry lee so shortly after dylan's world gone wrong
album,
which contains a version of stack-a-lee and love henry.
these songs of course form the background material for cave's songs
(although i do believe that cave has heard older versions as well...)

but perhaps this belongs in another newsgroup...?
