Hi,

Does anybody have the lyrics to the theme songs from the UK sitcom
"Only Fools and Horses"? I believe they were written by John
Sullivan, who also wrote the show. What I'm really interested in is
the closing song whose chorus I could never work out in several years
of watching the show - something like "God bless Hookey Street". If it
*is* Hookey Street, what or where is it?

Many thanks
S

As to Hookey Street, I'm not sure, it might be a bit of slang or
something, Multimap certainly doesn't find anywhere with that (or
Hooky) street in London

Hooky Street is a slang term for buying goods that are not strictly legal

If something is bought in Hooky Street, or if something is hooky, it usually
means it is stolen.

and here are the lyrics to the closing song

We've got some half price cracked ice and miles and miles of carpet tiles,
T.V.s, deep freeze and David Bowie L.P.s,
Ball games, gold chains, whatsnames, pictures frames and leather goods,
And Trevor Francis track suits from a mush in Shepherds Bush,
Bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush, bush ...
No income tax, no V.A.T.,
No money back, no guarantee,
Black or white, rich or poor,
We'll cut prices at a stroke......
God bless Hooky Street,
Viva Hooky Street,
Long live Hooky Street,
C'est magnifique, Hooky Street,
Magnifique, Hooky Street,
Hooky Street

Thank you everyone for some very interesting information! I'm
delighted to discover after all these years that I wasn't hearing
things, but as someone from (more or less) London, I'm ashamed I
didn't know what Hooky Street meant. "Now the ears of my ears can
hear and the eyes of my eyes are opened" - e.e. cummings (or it
could've been John Lennon actually)

Cheers
S
