Do not forsake me o my darlin.
On this our wedding day.
It is an old western tune.
It's actually from the movie "High Noon" starring Gary Cooper. I'm not
sure of the title of the song - it may be the first four words, but every
movie rental store carries the movie.
Sylvia Allen
Official title is Do Not Forsake Me; generally known as High Noon as it was
used in the film. Original artist was Tex Ritter, who i think wrote it.
Fine version also by Frankie Laine.
Just a side note, I rented High Noon thinking it was going to be a regular
western with an interesting love story. Instead it was a beautiful
morality tale about abandonment and love. I cried like a baby!
Laurie
(I think the title is actually, "Do not forsake me oh my darling" or "Love
theme from "High Noon").

My version so beautiful, by Hank Locklin
: Do not forsake me o my darlin.
: On this our wedding day.
: It is an old western tune.
It was from the film 'High Noon', starring Gary Cooper & Grace
Kelly - some of the words are:
Do not forsake me o my darlin'
On this our wedding day.
Do not forsake me o my darlin'
Wait, wait along.
I do not know what fate awaits me,
I only know I must be brave,
And I must face a man who hates me
Or die a coward,
A craven coward,
Or die a coward in my grave.
Wait along, wait along,
Wait along, wait along......
(This was played as he was about to face a gunslinger at high
noon - emotional stuff when you're young and impressionable ;-)
((well, I used to be!))

At about 3:30 am, being something of an insomniac, I began to
remember more lines from the above - here they are:
Oh to be torn twixt love and duty
S'possin' I lose my fair-haired beauty
Look at that big had movin' along
Nearing high noon
He made a vow while in State Prison
Vowed it would be my life, or his'n
I'm not afraid of death, but Oh
What would I do if you leave me
Do not forsake me o my darlin
You made that promise as a bride
Do not forsake me o my darlin
And though you're grieving
Don't think of leaving
Now that I need you by my side
Wait along, wait along,
Wait along, wait along.
(I believe it was sung by Frankie Laine.)

Bzzz!!
Sorry, wrong answer.
It was recorded by Tex Ritter (John's dad) especially for the film "High
Noon." (starring Gary Cooper)

Sirs, I have tested your machine. It adds a new terror to life and makes death a long-felt want. [To a gramophone company who had asked for a testimonial].
