Please explain "Wonderwall"

What does "wonderwall" mean? Is it a place or something from a Beatles
song or something one of the Beatles said? Is it a good or bad thing that
Oasis sings "you're my wonderwall"? a compliment or insult?

I don't know if it's a Beatles thing or not, but I heard an interview in
which Noel Gallagher of Oasis said that he wrote the song for his
girlfriend because he'd come to depend on her for so much, and he wanted
her to know how important she was to him. So I guess you can take that to
believe that "wonderwall" is a compliment. :)

Basically, 'you're my wonderwall' is 'you're my rock'. As in support. Someone
to rely on. Wonderwall is often seen as a love song - but I understood that it
was a 'Thank you for being there when I needed you' (or to some, 'You means a
lot to me') song to Noel G's girlfriend. (Obviously, Noel G wrote the song)
Mind you, although I am aware of the Beatles' influence on Oasis (especially the
G brothers), but why did you think 'wonderwall' was originated from The Beatles?
That was a kind of intriguing thought!

Wonderwall doesn't really mean anything. It's the title of a George
Harrison album. Oasis took the word and put a vague meaning to it, but
it doesn't really mean anything. Noel Gallagher (of Oasis) obviously
thinks it's a positive thing, so I doubt he meant it as an
insult...you'll never hear Oasis slagging the Beatles...they love 'em
too much.

George Harrison did put out/play on/produce/have something to do with an
album called "Wonderwall." I believe this was before "All Things Must
Pass," about the time of the Beatles' breakup. It might have been a
movie soundtrack. I never heard any music from it, but I remember there
being a red brick wall on the album cover.

Really, is that the nice way of saying it? In a magazine he said that
he wrote it because he was having an argument with his girlfriend, so he
wrote her a song to get shagged.
Don't get me wrong, I do love Noel.

I have heard an explanation that after the Beatles split George
Harrison made an album (or song) called "Wonderwall xxx", (I can't
remember what the other word was, great George expert, ha). The G
brothers used to like that record a lot. So, you're my wonderwall
means something nice in reference to that album!

I posted this before, but I guess you missed it. "Wonderwall" is the
name of a George Harrison album...hence, the Beatles connection. But
that's the '70s, not the '60s.

George Harrison had a solo album (while he was still with The Beatles) called
'Wonderwall Music'. It was a film soundtrack. Knowing the Beatles influence on
Oasis, I'd say that's where they got the word from.
